Is there any real point to this thread ?
It is a list of players transferring to Sydney Uni this year. There is no reference to any of the reasons why any the players have chosen to do so, some may have started studying at the University and some may be interested in testing themselves in the NEAFL. Others may have been fortunate enough to be awarded a spot in the University's Elite Athlete program. A lot will be simply moving interstate and find the University a convenient venue to play.
What you can be assured of is that each individual has there own reasons and regardless of the standard at which they play they will be able to get a game.
Further, football in Sydney is not a feudal system whereby individuals are bestowed upon their alotted local district club for the term of their natural life regardless of what personal benefit they may obtain or the manner in which the local club runs its own business.
The AFL wants the standard of football in Sydney/NSW to improve, the method they are attempting at the moment is by promoting two existing clubs into a higher competition. It is incumbet upon the clubs which choose to particpate in that competition to attempt to lift the standard in their own clubs by attracting whatever talent they can through the resources they have available to them.

Imagine if they actually had a recruitment strategy instead of just being a popular destination generally.

They will need a few more ins to be competitive IMO, judging by the quality of their listed outs.

Certainly lost a few of their local juniors in the last couple of years.
            Bottin-Noonan
            Michael Hartley
            Tom Young
            Nick Perry
            Jarrod Witts

            + many more

I guess after sucking in the fumes all their lives at Broadway, they wanted to see what the rest of the country looked like.

The pathway system comes pretty close.

Good on Sydney Uni for putting SIX senior teams on the paddock this season. They value all their members and have an inclusive and progressive culture.

The reason why so many of those ins are from Balmain should be clear.

Suspect they will still struggle again this year in the NEAFL....

A cursory glance over those and I can see a decent number who are playing in the lower grades and a number who either came across to play with guys they played with at school, one with his brother, and one who's studying at Sydney. Also a great deal not actually from NSW clubs.

I heard that they all came over for the free UAI points? I mean it wouldn't be because the players at the top end of the list want to play NEAFL, or an opportunity to play PD if you're on the fringe at another club, or that the club has six senior teams and gives 130 blokes a game each week, that everyone, irregardless of skill level or experience is welcomed to the club with open arms, that it is conveniently located for new transfers to Sydney, that it has an inclusive culture, or that the parents of the Colts players appreciate the fact their kids to be coached by a VFL legend in a supportive environment free of the politicking that goes on elsewhere. No, none of those things. It's because Sydney Uni is the worst, taking all of those players against their will and forcing them to play football. It's much easier for clubs to complain about people coming to play for SU than working out why and trying to do something about it.

Thanks to the OP for collating all the transfers into one place - should be helpful for learning names. If you've got that much spare time maybe you could come down and help out in the club's office? I hear its pretty busy with all the paperwork that needs to be registered for all the new transfers.

Sorry to be pedantic, but as your name suggests, you are a student. So you won't mind me pointing out that irregardless is not a real word, the word is regardless.

Irregardless is a pretty funny word though. Who knows, if enough people keep using it, it might become a real word. Mmmbop

Only 10 players this year who have experienced that inclusive culture , but decided to move on to another Sydney Club.

Wow, if I was going to make big statements like that then I reckon I'd do it after a WIN, but not after we got belted by one of last year's cellar dwellers !
