The demise of South Sydney ARFC

Was browsing through the NSW history site and the various annual reports they have archived, great effort by Ian and his team.

One tidbit raised an eyebrow, anyone shed light on this and expand on it, as I am a child of the early 80s so it's before my time..

Then it happened. A shocking incident on August 22,
that surely must go down as one of the blackest days in
Souths 96-year history, left the club a crumpled, dispirited,
    empty shell.
Will the club ever recover? I would like to think so,
and I have every confidence it will as I have found the
spirrit of the people associated with Souths is one that
may be dampened from time to time, but always rises again
and will never, never be stamped out completely.

No-one seems to want to touch this one Pekay.

I did some investigative work and now I realise that it's a story best left in a locked vault in a few people's memories.
Like when you explore the family tree and find there are things that people don't want known....better not to ask.

The demise of that club has always intriuiged me. It is amazing how a few bad eggs can ruin a proud old club very quickly.

Not sure why we need a cloud of secrecy for something that happened so long ago, no need to name names of course

Statute of limitations, I'm pulling that card! It sort of applies. Spill ya guts.
