Liberal voter are we? He's a Tony Abbott arch conservative dinosaur, totally out of touch with the community on major issues.

He'll be no loss at all from this parliament, no loss at all.

MICHAEL BYRNE - was a ruckman for Hawthorn, then the Swans. Then came into our comp as coach of North Shore Bears (now 'Bombers'). As well, he co-compered a "must listen" radio programme about Sydney footy on Saturday mornings.

Now he has been appointed skills coach to the ARU Wallabies and Super Rugby franchises, this after 10 years as skills guru for the All Blacks, Richie McCaw, Dan Carter and Mealamu. (Source - today's Sunday Telegraph....so it MUST be correct.)

I wish MY CV could read as impressive as that !!!

Albury Tigers footballer urinates in premiership cup as team mate fined for flashing testicle in newspaper - Yahoo7

Alex Goodall, 2014 Phelan Medallist has become a worldwide figure by Photo-bombing into a "scandalous" photo of premiership hooligans behaving badly.
Mind you, there is absolutely no reason to think he did anything wrong, other than being in the photo.

              Tom Morrison.
Coach of Sydney Uni prems for a year or two, and coached the Rep team to a spectacular smashing in Canberra this year (but that wasn't HIS fault).
He has been appointed coach of Sydney Uni NEAFL which is a mighty step-up for someone whose CV is pretty skinny.
But, if enthusiasm and attention to detail is what is required then he might just be the man for the job.

Other than not having played for an AFL club (WAFL his best) the way I read it he has probably more coaching experience than Gilmore when he was given the job. Going back to Moten his was all Sydney AFL experience so apples and pears. I agree somewhat surprising given where they are at someone with a significant amount of senior coaching experience wasn't appointed (Sydney is a bit skinny on those candidates though to be fair). I hear he is a much more popular character than his predecessor and I also heard the Rep Team was a shambles this year not due to him who apparently had few resources and it was all rushed etc. I reckon the appointment of a decent Prem Div Coach is a bigger problem for SU - they haven't had one since Moten.

I don't know Morrison or Gilmore but if we look to the recent appointments in AFL it seems to be a trend where the successful coaches are no longer the "big personalities" or great players.
It is now more about planning, man management and getting your team to fully (all 22) buy into your game plan. His profile reads of the background to the new coach version.

Hopefully he does a great job and the Students can take the next step to play in a NEAFL GF. A strong NEAFL side can only be good for Sydney AFL.

Justa - I think I said this when he was appointed coach but he is a fairly impressive character. Not that I have spent much time with him but on the few occasions I have spoken to him and also seen him talk I rated him highly. I think his background and CV is also very good and he is well suited to the NEAFL comp. Coaching in that competition is fairly difficult (commitment, travel, playing against AFL sides) and it takes a certain type of person to be able to do it well.
