    Gosford Options

I have a Fijian friend who might be coming to Australia to further his football experience.
He's in the Fijian national team.
Can somebody give a quick breakdown of the teams in the Gosford area.
    give it to the game

    Well there's...
    Gosford div 1 and 2
Killarney Vale Prem, Div 1 and 2
    Wyong Div 1 and 2
    Bateau Bay Div 2

There's also Terrigal (Prem, Div 1 and 2)but honestly Bishop has that many good players running about he really could not possible fit another in.
All have women's teams....in case your f1j1 friend has a partner of the fairer sex who wants a run.

Do they play in the newcastle comp? 4 team div 1 comp would get boring.

They do, it's about 8 teams I think, quite a good standard

            Prem Div has 6 teams.
            Div 1 has 10 teams
            Div 2 has 11 teams.

Other teams from Newcastle way include Singleton, Maitland, Lake Macquarie, Cardiff, Newcastle City, Warners Bay and Nelson Bay.

The Divisions are not super competitive unfortunately. The top 2 or 3 teams dominate the others. Quite lop sided at times. They used to have a 2 div competition until recently. The advent of another division allowed clubs to field a third team(5 teams do this now). Whilst it was a necessary and great idea all it did was send an uncompetitive team down a division to dominate the lower competition. Pundits on this forum have many suggestions regarding fixing divisionalisation in the Sydney AFL but there's not a lot more anyone can do in the BDAFL. Clubs need to get stronger and get promoted. A six team premier division comp with 3 competitive and 3 less competitive teams is far from ideal. I'm sure the BDAFL would love any of the 7 clubs who only enter lower div teams to step up when they are able. Previous attempts to promote Wyong and Lake Macquarie were unsuccessful and they soon fell back. Another 5 or 10 years will hopefully make a difference.

When Gosford took their club to Sydney it really left a gaping whole in the region where Terrigal was able to draw from huge area and junior players who moved to seniors and wanted to stay local. The same situation occurred when Newcastle West folded which left Newcastle City as the only team in that region. Not surprisingly these 2 teams have dominated recently.

There's a lot of positivity that the BDAFL could have 10 or more teams in their prem div competition in years to come. The demise of the BDAFL u/18s competition a few seasons ago and this year the central coast u/17s competition does not bade well in the short term however.
