Sydney AFL to play QAFL at last

I notice that at last the SydneyAFL will play the QAFL in a rep game in July. It's about time.

I've been calling for this for years now on radio and here on RWO.

I always suggested though, that the QAFL pick their side from the Brisbane based clubs only and thus we'd could call it a genuine "Brisbane v Sydney Rep game" to be played as a curtain raiser to the Lions v Swans!

I always suggested that this would get people into the gate earlier and hold more interest at the SCG than a game against the Riverina.

In Troy's world of banning Southport, Labrador, Broadbeach and I assume the Lions 2's maybe we leave out Campbelltown and Wollongong out of our calculations. Not sure the boys down South would agree. They all deserve the same right.

Apparantly the plan is to play against the QAFL's 2nd 22 and see how Sydney compares to that. If Sydney put in a good showing and touch them up then perhaps QALF will get serious and field their best 22 in a future match. I think the Sydney side will do really well against them. The top 5 or so players from every SAFL side could cut it in most leagues in Aust IMO - it's just the depth where Sydney falls down at the moment - those bottom 6-10 players from each club. Therefore a Sydney rep side should be able to match it with the QAFL 1st team I would have thought. Guess we'll just have to wait and see...

I remember about 6-7 years ago Qld played NSW at the Gabba.

Qld was made up of the best of the QAFL & NSW was a mixture of the SFL & ALL the country leagues. Qld won by 100 points.

There is a ridiculous amount of money up there thats why they had to introduce a salary cap. Southport actually has more members than Collingwood or Essendon.

              Sydney AFL vs QAFL

It would be quite an interesting concept.
Well done Craig Bolton for getting the co- captaincy in 2008.

Your determination, your tenacity and your under-rated skill is why you have become my favourite player!

                Shearer,

So i take it NSW football has a long way to go. Do you think the QLD competetion is stronger due to the fact the players are being paid more. What is an average player get paid in the sydney football?
