Any new clubs outside Sydney?

Any clubs outside Sydney folding?

With Goulburn, Murwillumbah, Muswellbrook and a few other clubs restarting in recent years are there any to add to the list?

Are the teams out west still all hanging on?

What happened to Phil Doyle's Katoomba-Lithgow side? The NSWACTAFL told them they couldn't join the SydneyAFL div 2 because of the travel commitments for Sydney clubs, which I always thought was a bit of bull****, particularly because the option they suggested to them was the South Coast AFL of all leagues... Not sure if they actually got the map out before telling them that.

But anyway, after buying jumpers and playing some trial matches against Central West teams they disappeared again as far as I can tell... anyone heard anything?

I had a look at the South Coast AFL website. It seems that Ulladulla & Jervis Bay/St Georges Basin, neither of whom competed last season, are playing as a combined club this year. There'd be a lot of intra-club travel involved for that club.

the Norwest Jets played Katoomba Lithgow(our nearest club from another comp) in an end of season friendly at Bensons Lane at the end of 03,nice bunch of blokes off field,bunch of thugs on it. we beat em by about 40-50 in atrocious windy conditions.speaking to Phil after the game,he reckoned that after playing us and Cronulla previously,they had enough support and showed enough for admission in 04,which didnt eventuate.it still surprises me that Central West havent supported it.i guess their playing personnel went to Bathurst,Mudgee or Penrith,although i didnt see any of them at Dukes last yr.

Where are penrith playing at? Is it Dukes Oval?

Penrith moved to Dukes in 2003 and are still there although as late as last week a meeting was held with the local Council and the local cricket association who control the ground in the summertime. Seems they want the Rams moved away before the season starts due to the damage that they say football does to the centre wicket area. I'm not sure where they expect them to play, a move back to Greygums Oval would be unacceptable.

thank god DLH,i thought the Sports Gestapo only worked at Hawkesbury Council.we cant even run on Bensons with boots on,5 damn fields to choose and we cant use ANY!! all winter sports are not allowed within cooee of a field until april. same sitch in Blacktown as well.how you blokes going over there in Sheepsville?is old mate Pickles and Tubs running around this yr?

Yeah it's pretty pathetic but what can you do? The boys are training across the road until next month, hopefully Council see sense and let us stay at Dukes in the short term. How they can justify to ratepayers the use of resources such as this one and Howell Oval (opp. Panthers) for only 6 months of the year is beyond me.

Tubby looks like going to England to play cricket this year. I'm sure Pickles will be running around again, can't keep the grub away!! Nothing much else to report, no recruits of any note have fallen into our lap. Probably be another season scratching around for a couple of wins unfortunately.

Central West DID support Katoomba-Lithgow being entered into the competition.

They were the ones that pulled out and decided they'd try for another competition.

Central West AFL were quite happy to have them join the ranks.

well i stand humbly corrected,but they were the words from Filthy himself over beers at Bensons after said game. a shame,as their claim to fame was the highest ground altitude in Australia,i think Browntown Oval or Mt Victoria Oval.so are there any new clubs in our fine state?a few mergers in the south ive heard thru re-structure.any current clubs fold?

Basically they were looking to shorten their travel time ... it is quite a distance from Katoomba to Dubbo ...
I know some of the guys that were on the league board at the time ... were quite interested in helping Katoomba. Their first year was a trial year to see how committed they were to the travel, the second year they were to be put in full time into the reserves, and then seniors the following year.

Unfortunately it never came about...

thats a shame,a strong comp out there no doubt,will be back up there soon enough.are you blokes playing North Riverina in reps again?and are you at Bathurst Mase?

Unsure about the reps game, but I do believe that is the case.

Yes I live in Bathurst! Used to play football on the Central Coast Junior AFL, then Black Diamond AFL, then Sydney AFL u18's, then of course here in Bathurst.

Not sure if I will play this year yet!

Bushies should do well again,one of our old boys is playing there this year, Mick Kemp,former Campbelltown and Balmain,big athletic ruck/CHF, always gives his all,whether on the paddock or at the sponsors. who and when did you play 18s down here?
