Penrith beat Gosford by a couple of goals at Wagener Oval, although both sides had a number of players missing. Gosford's website says that they had about a dozen senior players out, whilst Penrith had a large contingent of senior guys attending a wedding (no, not Nick Stevens' brother).

How do you play 6 quarters? Wouldn't it be 6 sixths?

A little bird tells me that the Eagles beat Penno by about 50 points - but not much can be read into the result as the two teams played a different tactic for the practice match.

Seems the Demons chose to play 3 qtrs of reserves and 3 quarters of First Grade where the Eagles opted to run more interchange with some players playing all 6 qtrs.

Both teams looked good on the field (or sandpit as it could better be described) with skill levels unusually high for this early part of the season.

Both teams should give it a good shake this year.

Wagener needs a lot of work !!!!!!

            Lensman's little birdie is correct.

Both clubs differed in their approach to playing groups with Penno changing to a completely fresh 22 after the third quarter (sixth?) wheras the Eagles mixed and matched all day.

If they are important, the scores were

In my opinion, it is like having one and a half apple pies. If you cut them into quarters you will have, in fact, 6 quarters of a pie. But if you only have one pie and divide it into six, then it would be indeed only 'sixths'. So I guess you need to know did they play full quarters, of say 25mins, or were they reduced in length. (Incidentally, sixth is hard to say, particularly the final term known as the 'sixth sixth'.) To add further, if you play 3 terms of 6 term game (of 25min quarters) you could say you played half of 'the game' but three-quarters of 'a game'. I better get back to work before people see me typing this dribble.

So presuming Penno played there senior side for the final 3 quarters, they beat ECE 7 goals to 4?

                      Would that be correct?

That is correct Shearer Penno did win the last three quarters against an Eagles outfit the majority of which had already played 3 qtrs and the Demons kicked 5 goals in the last quarter.

I guess all this proves is that both teams went into the game with different priorities and approaches and that pre season scores don't get you competition points.

Both teams looked ok and the ECE recruits seemed to enjoy the chance to get a taste of Sydney footy and play with their ne teammates.
