    Standard of Division 2

Due to a lazy and busy preseason I have found myself having a run in Balmains 3rd Grade team, which is operating out of the division 2, no one really seems to have any idea what the standard of play is. I'm sure everyone is playing to win but I am curious to know what to expect

The standard of Division 2 is where alot of players dont have the time nor committment to train the desired 2-3 nights a week. There are still plenty of talented players playing in division 2.
It is Balmains 1st year with a Division 2 side this year isnt it? How are they looking for numbers, and quality of players?

My mate used to coach in that standard so I've been to a fair few games to have a look. It's not too good, but everyone has fun. A lot of missed targets and bad tackles, but enjoyable enough to watch, so must be OK to play.

Yes there is alot of older blokes running around in that comp that dont want to hang the boots up and the only way they can keep up with the younger lads is by being more physical, throwing there weight around!

I once heard it described by a guy that umpired it that it is '2 hours of bad tackles'!

That might be a tad harsh....

Which is a bit of a worry as it's my first game of senior football.

In regards to numbers they are actualy pretty good, we had 18 or so at training and I think a few 2s and 18s will play as well. As well as the kipper.

for the past few years the 2nd division has been rated everything from park footy to thuganomics on a weekend.im even guilty of bagging it in the past, but now that Norwest are playing in it this year,i can tell you if opposition treat it as park footy and approach their game as such, they are in for a shock.we have only one team after losing heaps of players, and are intent on playing finals, nothing short.to some its park footy, but to us out here, its the best chance to get some success back in the club.at the end of the day, footys footy.

                    Pekay,

What happened to NorWest they used to have some success from week to week. I saw a few games of your lads over the past few years and you guys looked like you had some talented footballers.

I would have thought you could have survived in your comp with the talent you on the park.
If Norwest have the same calabre of players floating around they shall definately play finals footy in that division!

hada cracker year in 2004,just missed finals in 1sts,and won 3 in 2nds(doesnt sound real flash, but it is)so the best year for the club thus far.then the cracks appeared.the last few years have consisted of band-aid solutions to huge problems, and it all came to a head in Jan/Feb this year.i was about to pack a bag to play footy in Broome when the Pres resigned,so stepped in to keep us alive.Dom Shipley and Will Jackett should be applauded, many a late night on the phone working out what to do. no money no committee and an exodus to rival the numbers at the Popes funeral was the catalyst.weve lost 8 to Balmain 2 to Penno 1 to St Clair(he's in strife)and 2 to Sydney Uni,not to mention interstate postings and overseas deployment, makes close to 70 blokes gone.cant rely on RAAF every week, and staying in SFA would mean playing both grades every week,no-one wants that.

70 blokes is some amount of players to loose! Are there any good players amoungst that group that have gone to continue to play in the sydney comp?
Wont you play against St Clair this year? You will be able to fix the ones up that left you guys, to go to other clubs!

[/QUOTE ] we lost 26 of 40 from senior grade last year, all talented footballers.leading goals SFA 2004 Fraser Thomson, and one of the most skilful players ive ever seen,Steven Quirk have gone to Tigerland, the other blokes great as well.Penno have Aaron Clayden,a Taswegian with phenomenal skill.rest assured St Clair will take over Penrith and Goannas as our biggest rivals now, local derbies, under lights,6 degrees in Richmond, what more could you want?

Losing 26 of a squad of 40 will hurt any club. Its a shame as it would be great to see Sydney Football improve.

Who do you think shall be the strong teams in 2nd division?
