As the Thread title says, the BDAFL rep footy is back on the map after the Senior side beat the Hume League & the Under 18 side were beaten after the siren by AFL Canberra.
There is a report on www.bdafl.com.au which discusses the senior game in detail and the border mail was rather scathing in their report on Hume Border Mail
The Eighteens game started pretty evenly with the guys getting used to each other. We were struggling in the ruck a bit, with their Ruckman being 6 foot plenty as opposed to ours being 6'2. However our guys were dominant around the ground, but did not pepper the goals. The 2nd Quarter was tight up until the last few minutes, where the Canberra boys snuck a few late goals in. Both sides kicked 4 goals in the 3rd Quarter & the ascendancy was definately with us as we headed for home.
Canberra camped themselves inside the BDAFL defensive 50 for a large part of the last but ould only manage behinds. The BDAFL got a few breaks and kicked truly, taking the lead with about 5 minutes to go. With less than a minute to go a behind from Canberra brought the scores all square & a rare defensive error in the last 30 seconds caused a mark to Canberra 40 metres out when the siren went. Under a huge amount of pressure, the Canberra player kicked true and bagged the win.
Good games were had by Fullback Nathan Hirst (Cardiff), CHF & Ruck Rick White (Killarney), CHB & Centreman Shaun Smith (Cardiff), Onballer Aaron Twigg (Cardiff), HBF Aaron Monk (Gosford) Wingman Michael Atkinson (City) & R/Rover Mitch Knight (City).
I could name all 22 players who all had great games. The boys stood up and did themselves proud.
The Facilities at Ainslie were pretty hot too I must say- Not as good as Number 1 but far in excess of anything else i've ever seen for local footy & i'd love to see a licensed club next to every AFL ground!
