As I mentioned elsewhere, I spoke to Laine on the weekend who said he is out for at least another 8 weeks with his shoulder but if surgery is required much longer. Either way he is no guarantee of returning to the field this year. A shame after such a strong start.

        Tips

        PH
        WS
        NS
        Uni
        St G
        Gong
        ECE
        BAL
        C'Town

Phelan will come from WS or PH. Who cares about the rising star it is a useless award as it goes to someone who only drifts into and out of the competition due to RAMS committments.

Looking fwd to the big rep game this weekend.

the award is based only on club performances, so chances are the winner will be a young fella not in the rams program who plays the bulk of the season.

The criteria for the Rising star has changed this year meaning that it should go to a young guy who busts his gut each week for his club side. However I have been to a few games this year and haven't seen to many of last years selection panel at many of the games, have they changed the panel and not told anyone or will the judging be the same as in previous years with the panel having made their selections without having seen a SydAFL game.
It is my opinion that the coaches should vote on the award, not being able to vote for anyone from their own club, at least they might have actually seen some of these kids play.

Can anyone name the last say 5 winners of the Rising Star award in the SFL??? I can't honestly remember who they all were but Tom Hill & Nick Potter both come to mind and both played hardly any SFL footy in the years that they won the award???

Also, speaking of predictions at the 1/2 way mark of the year, I am guessing that the ECE would be bitterly dissappointed with where they are currently on the laddder. After all the hype of their 'gun signings' in the off season they have once again failed to live up to their own pre set and published expectations. It seems almost every year we hear the same thing from the Eagles; a series of flash new recruits, bold predictions about how they are going to be the team to beat....yet they still hover in the lower middle section of the ladder??? Whats going on over there? Are the recruits as good as all were led to believe or is it the other players on their list that are stopping them going forward. Just interested that all???

couldnt tell you all rising stars there,

with east coast, one thing is yes you are right they are under achieving.

however with predictions and self belief i see nothing wrong with that, and well it is good they put up some updates which is more than a lot of other sites.

but well it will be interesting to see how the second half of the season goes, i see it as a lot better than the first half and well we will all find out by the seasons end.

they do have the talent but like many am not quite sure why they arent doing it each week.

hats off though too pennant hills and wests they have really performed well first half of the season.

Agree about their web site. They are the best at keeping their site updated no doubt. Interesting about their players though. It just seems too regular that this happens to them.

Your right though Wests and Pennant Hills have been the standouts. 2nd half of the season should be interesting too! It will be a big thing if the Eagles can finally make the top 4 thats for sure!

they have a chat room thing there but no one ever chats in it.

i am pretty sure after this weekends break and a lot of analysing by the players and caching staff the second half of year will be better.

i think top four they will make and from there anything can happen but a big gap between top too. however even pennant hills unleashed on west last round.

Turvey Park in 87 had the same dilemma-spent up big but midway thru the season, the questions were asked-why are they struggling?why aren't their top echelon of players performing consistently?the answer was a 4 pt win over Wagga in the GF.point being, they probably havent gelled as well as they should have YET.they will more than likely come good,if its not this year then look out 06 they will know each other back to front by then(should they retain their list)the positive of it is that their Magoos are going from strength to strength(despite the loss to Dogs, which they may have needed, perhaps Jacks could comment on that?)and will build a strong core out of that and their colts also.and they have Hansel from Zoolander in their squad, that helps.haha
