    Shearer .....

The site in question is still "a motorcross track" with work yet to start. Local observers may think that the sporting grounds currently being developed directly opposite and across Commercial Road are the ones we hope to be allocated.

That is not the case and therefore 2006 won't be an option for us at this stage. Maybe cricket in the summer of 2006, with footy in the winter of 2007.

I believe either way your on a win win as Alan Davison is an excellent surface with good facilities.

It is no secret that St George relies heavily on their Local Talent. Correct me if I am wrong here but I am pretty sure there has been a very strong and successful focus on developing St George Juniors into quality Sydney AFL players since O'Brien left the Club 3 years ago. No suprises for guessing who was largely responsible for that direction and development.

You could argue that had St George been as successful off the field and as financially stable as the other top sides in the competition over the last few years, they may of been able to recruit a couple of key players and had some silverware in the trophy cabinet.

It is no secret that any successful football club outside the AFL is one that Develops and maintains its local players as well as successfully recruiting key players. Not only to strengthen the side but also to fast track the development of the younger players who benefit from playing along side them.

As for Sydney AFL going backwards, I think that the standard of Junior Football is certainly improving and the quality of the players coming through to Senior football has improved and will continue to do so.

I think the bigger challenge is to provide quality coaches not only for our juniors but also as they move on to senior football.

Anyone can be a coach, the challenge is to improve not only the player but also the person.

I think Alan Davidson Oval is a great home ground. It is just a shame there is not a decent AFL oval which is available for ECE a little closer than Sydenham. A lack of ovals would seem a huge problem facing the development of AFL in Sydney.

I have just joined this forum -
Reason -I lived in Sydney for 6 years a few years ago and will again follow the fortunes of our great game in a "Rugby wilderness".
At that time the media ignored our game completely.

What I dont get is -Why do people want to follow "pommy football codes" when they have a great local product.

Looking at the whole Sydney scene from afar it appears the future trend appears possibly to revolve around Aussie Rules and Cricket getting together to share new grounds.

Outsiders like me from the Football States always look at NSW and QLD development and compare them. Why has QLD been able to increase its numbers and participation in the school systems in Brisbane much better than Sydney.

The AFL executive in its entirety (32 people) flew into Sydney earlier this year on a "fact finding mission".
Did they actually get out of their hotel and meet anybody besides the NSWAFL.

            Oscar,
Keep up the good work and am very pleased the mighty West Coast Eagles have aligned themselves with your club.
The West Coast are a very professional outfit in every thing they do off the ground.

I cant comment on all of your points but there are alot i can-

*There are many more jouniors playing at the moment than past years, even not including auskick figures there has been an evident increase in the number of kids playing the game at junior level. There has also been 3 new clubs that i know of that have been established over the last few years.

*Your comment on north shore interstate transfers is totally wrong

*" ECE refuse to play in their local area" wrong

personally i dont really have a problem with the 2 guys from st.george moving over to ECE under the circumstances.

                        To Northshore FC,

Did not ask you to agree with my points.

I was offering my support to Oscar because he is the Club President. - A job that usually nobody wants. He runs the ECE as he sees it.
To repeat the West Coast Eagles do not affiliate with duds.

Three new clubs are fine - But how many Auskickers are coming through - Heaps of them -Where are the clubs and grounds for them.
Comparing to QLD they are absorbing all new kids without any problems. They have similar numbers of Auskickers.

Do your self a favour go and find the article on the Herald Sun Web site today -where Mike Sheehan interviews and asks Demitriou and Sheedy about Sydney footy. That sums it up quite well.

West Coast previously havent affiliated with duds but there has to be a first and the performances of ECE first grade in the last 10 years can only be called disappointing at best. Pretty poor to have not made the finals in an 8 team competition for that long.

The whole problem is that Demitriou and Jackson before him talk about how important Sydney is. The facts are the quality and quantity of junior and senior footy is getting worse and that fact is indisputable. It is not Demitriou's fault as he is only aware of what his employees tell him and we have some propaganda experts working for NSWAFL that George Bush would be proud of.

In fact the AFL in Sydney and ECE are very similar. All talk and promises and no tangible results.

Yeah well with ECE and the WCE you cannot help bad luck. Actually WCE may place their Demitrious " Kids picks scheme" at that club next year. You might see some changes then when they have a proper vested interest in how the club manages their kids.

Interesting stuff about the NSWAFL doing a con job on AFL House.
