    Private School Carnival

I understand there was a bit of a private school aussie rules carnival before the AFL on Sunday afternoon?

It involved famous rugby schools like Joeys, Riverview, Kings, Knox, Waverly, Aloysius, Shore etc, who now obviously field aussie rules sides.

Does anyone know the results on the matches? That'd be great.

I think Kings beat Queanbeyan by around 150 pts.

always amazes me how these private schools get the opportunity to play at grounds like Telstra ... whilst we have had to play on goat tracks like Gwawley, Gore Hill & Gipps.

have more SFL footy at SCG & Telstra I say!

I remembered in 2000 IGSSA and CIS hired the stadium for our athletics carnivals.

I think school kids should get the opportunity to play on decent tracks like that and its a great experience for them!
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

i'd kill to be back at school playing that kind of footy,on those kinds of grounds..if i could put my Seven Hills HS team back together,we'd be laughing!oohh my elbow and forearm just started tingling....playing those schools would be like playing catholic schools--except i wouldn't apologize after!!!long live CHS and Met West, the greatest looking school strip i've played in.

A good opportunity for kids at these schools to play for their schools. Of course, this comp only starts after the rugby season is finished (it used to be athletics start of term 2, followed by rugby trials for the rest of the term and comp in term 3, now athletics is after the rugby is finished), but at least its there.

                I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Yep, and I think it's ridiculous that the kids are forced into playing rugby or soccer for the school, even if they hate them both! I had a conversation with an guy who used to teach at one of the schools mentioned above and he was talking about how much of an inconvenience it was that parents and kids were interested in getting an Aussie Rules comp running and were constantly putting pressure on the school to allow it.

The kids that do want to play a full season of Aussie Rules are forced to spend Saturday morning doing school sport and the afternoon playing Aussie Rules. That's a fairly big commitment to make and I'd suggest puts many families off playing Aussie Rules.

It was the Southern Idependent Schools (incl Trinity) against the Northern Independednt Schools (incl Riverview, Joeys etc). The Norths belted them fairly severely after a huge first quater. Not a bad standard for Under 16s. Some decent skills and kids that clearly knew how to play the game.
                    - Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in a world they've been given, than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact, it's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration, it's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing!

Just in case anyone is interested, Riverview play in the Northside Junior AFL They fielded teams in the under 12, under 13, under 14 and under 16 comps this year, with the Under 16's getting beaten in the first week of the finals by Hornsby(who are in the Grand Final this week, Go the Eagles).
