    Grand Final Day

Can anyone shed some light on the reasons behind the ressies and 18's swithcing time slots on GF day?

Perhaps in the past this was logical? But surely now it seems strange. I totally support the 18's competition and enjoy seeing some of the quality football the young boys play, but i would think that a better build up for the day would be to to continue with the progression that has served us well all year- 18's - Ressies - Seniors.

I guess it's all about promoting the 18's as the future of Sydney Footy. With the exception of a few players at each club, you expect your good players to emerge from the 18's, not the 2's. Letting the young kids play at 12 means more people will see the next crop of good players go around, and give the kids the thrill of finishing up in front of a healthy crowd. Same thing happens in the AFL. The TAC Cup finishes up on Grand Final Day, but there's no 2's (or VFL) anymore.

Using that theory, why don't the Ressies play at 10am each weekend. Players have a set routine, regardless of the league they play in, which gets changed to for the last game of the year. That aint gel.
      Consistency...is the go...surely.

Is the Premier League on Sat or Sun this week. The fixture I have from Round 1, states Sat but the talk at Hensen is Sunday.
      So which one ?

      Consistency please....

I've seen a few weird things since I've been here, none more so than No.1 on the list.

          1. Double header on first week of finals when there's only a top four. Very ordinary in my opinion.
          2. Following from 1. many people have argued it is so teams don't have unfair breaks leading into their finals. How do you explain the preliminary being on a Sunday - Wests = 14 days break, prelim winner = 6 days.
          3. As mentioned on this thread, seconds playing before thirds.
          4. Second division having to play their finals at ridiculous hours of the morning. This is still senior football and there are enough grounds in Sydney to give them a 2pm time slot, or at least play them after the Div 1 reserves.

My opinions. What do you think?

Not sure, possibly Henson Park may not have been available on Saturday.
But it does leave Saturday exclusively for the Divisions 1 & 2 grand finals at Kelso.
The difference in the break is substantial - maybe it would have been a better option to play the 1st semi on the Saturday and the 2nd on the Sunday.

Reason its on Sunday is the Newtown Jets play there on Saturday in the League!

              see below:

Tim from Big Brother Will Attend the Newtown Jets Annual Reunion Next Saturday
Tim Brunero, the cult figure from the hit television series ?Big Brother?, will be the principal guest at the Newtown Jets annual players and supporters' reunion at Henson Park next Saturday (September 3rd). Tim is an avid Newtown supporter and is looking forward to seeing the Jets in action on this popular community day. Devotees of the ?Big Brother? program will recall that Tim frequently sported Jets apparel on virtually every episode of the top rating show. There will be a number of other high profile guests in attendance, including the silky-voiced Tom Raudonikis and many former first grade players and coaches from yesteryear ...

Newtown Rugby League Football Club Annual Reunion
The Newtown Rugby League Football Club will be holding its annual players, officials and supporters reunion at Henson Park on Saturday, September 3, 2005.
This is the club's last home game for the 2005 season, when the Sydney Airport Jets play the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the NSWRL VB Premier League competition starting at 3.00pm, preceded by a curtain-raiser at 1.00pm. This is a great opportunity for all former Newtown grade and junior players, administrators and supporters to rendezvous at Henson Park to meet up with all their old mates who have helped build the traditions of Australia 's oldest Rugby League club. Following the games, everybody can adjourn back to the Jets Sports Club in Holbeach Avenue , Tempe . Tell all your old team-mates and other Newtown friends and supporters to meet up at Henson Park for what is always a terrific day. Good on Newtown.

Thought it was to give the Kelso games right of way.

Lets hope the Jets leave Henson Park in a bitter better shape than they did last week.

But.... I still haven't seen a good reason why the finals can't be played over four weekends like every other league in Australia.

Very interesting.......the league goes quiet on these issues.

So the oval will be full of rugby league markings, when will these be league lines be painted over....is it a council ground.... certainly means an early start for them on Sunday morning to get the game ready, rooms cleaned etc.

This weekend Norths will be too strong in the 18s, they have some sizeable units in that size and playing against 16 yr old will be too physical.
Ressies will be a great game...Uni with minor premiers tag will go in as red hot favorites
Ones - Can Penno bounce back? Will take some character. Norths are looking good though even though they don't have a ruckmen.... straight from R Walls on the couch....

scooped...........the league has more things to do than comment on every minor issue that comes up. the council will change the posts, paint over league lines with green paint etc.

if i can remember my weeks properly, i'm pretty sure the jets played a home game the same day the nsw u18's played sa 18's and penno played wests at henson. the changes were made between games and i don't think anyone had a problem with it that day.

There won't be any problem getting the league posts down and lines painted over. They did it in a 2-hour turnaround the day of the Sydney v Southern NSW rep game (despite me & JF_Bay_22 having a kick-to-kick on the ground at the time).
Unfortunately the ground could be a bit dusty, but that's the drought - it's the same everywhere.

Henson was not well prepared at all for the prelim on sunday. The league lines were still painted white and the AFL lines were still green. Drainage looked ok, but no lines was pretty ordinary. Didin't look good at all, will look very average on FoxFooty on friday.
