    Phelan Medal

Who's gonna win the Phelan Medal this year or the Snow Medal???

I remember Gambale was suspended for one game so he is ineligible. I doubt anyone else from Wests could be a chance - they ought to be taking votes from each other. Laine missed too mnay games for Penno. Does Campbelltown, Balmain or St George have a stand out in a "losing" team?

    What's the market?????

Based on a system I use to give votes from the best players as submitted to the website, I think Gambale is gonna be a shattered man on Monday night.
I've got him comfortably in front on both points tallies.

This is my top 10, with the points under my system of 10,9,8,7 etc

    1 P. Gambale (Magpies) 96
    2 M. Lord (Bombers) 87
    3 J. Barratt (Demons) 84
    4 D. Davies (Bombers) 76
    5 R. Phillips (Bulldogs) 70
    6 M. Brewster (Wests) 61
    7 T. Burnett (Lions) 60
    8 D. Coupe (Bulldogs) 59
    9 J. Crosby (Bombers) 56
    10 C. French (Tigers) 52

And using the medal format of 3,2,1

    1 P. Gambale (Magpies) 20
    2 J. Barrett (Demons) 15
    3 M. Lord (Bombers) 13
    3 R. Phillips (Bulldogs) 13
    3 M. Brewster (Magpies) 13
    6 D. Davies (Bombers) 10
    7 J. Crosby (Bombers) 9
    7 R. Craig (Crows) 9
    7 B. Howarth (Demons) 9
    7 J. Clarke (Demons) 9
    7 M. Egan (Magpies) 9

I'm not sure how this system will go here, but in my previous league it has picked five medallists and two runners up in seven seasons, with the two that I didn't pick still being in my top five.

I'd be confident the winner will almost certainly come from the first list.
As I said, I'm predicting a disappointing night for Paul Gambale, unless the umpires stopped voting for him after he got rubbed.
"It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

Gambale would have been my pick had he not been suspended. I'll tip Coupe from UNSW-ES, who's had a great season; although Rod Craig from St George could be a smokey.

        regarding phelan on monday night...

my mail is Barnaby Howarth will be leading up until about Round 10!!!!!

Gambers will romp it in... but cant collect.

Late mail..... Not one first grade player from Wests or Pennant Hills has been invited to attend.

League only inviting top 10 this year and not top vote getters from every club as in past years.

Josh Flanagan from Riverview to win the kealy medal...

            Balmains B & F Count:

            First Grade

            127 Cameron French
            74 Damien Bowles
            73 Joel Minichiello
            61 Shane Dupuy
            49 Nathan Hayward

Amazing effort by Damien Bowles, and he should surely be favorite for the rising star.

would have to agree with you there, if he isnt up there u would have to question how it is calculated that is for sure.

but there are some talented other players there but damien i would say with his solid season for balmain would for sure have to be there.

does anyone know how it is decided or the system used to get this award?

Gambale to gain the most vote.

Marc Lord to gain second best number of votes to win the Phelan

As for the rising star, is it possible to win both (Marc Lord nominated in Round 9)? Has had a great season but if he gets the medal would this award go elseware?

Dean Davies would be my other contender for the Rising Star.

I think the Rising Star is awarded to the Nominee with the most Phelan Votes.

Thus Marc Lord? or Dean Davies?

Balmain probably didnt win enough games for Bowles to grab votes.

you would of thought they would of had a system which would cater for the actual award of a rising star.

damien with balmain would of struggled with lack of wins for his team, however the st george team and wollongong team have a good base of younger players, you could even add east coast to that list.

i would of thought the term rising star would be based on the actual players and not how his team went and there improvement over the course of a season.

I would of thought two 19 yr olds (Davies & Lord) who were two of the best players in the rep game this year against Qld would have earnt the right to win a rising star award based on their ability. Nothing to do with winning games or the quality of their home side.

One could suggest the form of Davies & Lord could be why North Shore are still a chance in 2005.

Well we start a new football club up and find out that none of our players got an invitation to the medal night. Total incompetance on behalf of the AFLNSWACT. We have decided not to attend monday night

Why are you surprised Benny things in Sydney football havent really changed since the Craig Davis era despite what the apologists on this site will have you believe.

Could the usual suspects please respond?
