The First Division grand final today at Kelso turned out to be a cracker of a game. UTS raced out of the blocks and ran to a 31-point lead at the first change, but the Bats ran out of puff after half-time and Sydney Uni gradually reeled them in before capitalising on some tired defensive lapses late in the game to run to a 20-point win.
The same clubs clashed in the reserves grand final, with the same result as Sydney Uni claimed the double. This one was much more clear-cut, although a late rally by the Bats made the scoreline closer than the run of play over the match should have made it.
In Second Division, as Tara has already pointed out on another thread, NorWest Jets took the match by 35 points over Sydney Uni Blue to claim their first silverware. A remarkable fightback by the club after the pre-season turmoil; and hopefully this can be the catalyst to lure some more players to the club for a future return to First Division.
All in all, an enjoyable day of footy; and whether it was by accident or design it's worked out well that there was no Premier Division games on First & Second Division grand final day which enabled me (and others) to attend - a not bad crowd in attendance.
