AFTER eight years in mothballs, Geelong's most famous guernsey, the No. 5, will be back in action next season, with the club's top recruit Travis Varcoe set to wear the number made famous by Graham "Polly" Farmer and Gary Ablett.
With the Cats' board deciding this week that the No. 5 should be reissued, the sons of Ablett once more declined the chance to wear the jumper their famous father wore throughout his stellar career with the Cats.
The number had been unofficially put aside for either Gary jnr or Nathan, but they have remained steadfast in their decisions to stay with No. 29 and No. 23 respectively.
The No. 5 guernsey was also offered to senior players ? including Paul Chapman (35), Cameron Ling (45), Corey Enright (44) and Matthew Scarlett (30) ? with high numbers, but all chose not to change.
A club spokesman said Varcoe was "fine and quite excited".
