Yep it is...guess we have 14 days to wait to find out!
The other drama is Sunday's..now that is seems Nine will only show one game, will they want a live game at 2pm? and does that rule out Sydney and Brisbane because of League at 4pm?
Originally posted by Norris Lurker In a choice between money and exposure, the AFL have chosen the money. Very disappointing.
Agreed.
Whatever the ins and outs of who games are onsold to and whether night games are shown at 10.30pm or past midnight, the fact remains that C9 is committed to the AFL's biggest competitor (in the northern markets) for televised winter sport.
As it is, C9 rarely stick to advertised times for the night games they show in Sydney, with games regularly starting as much as an hour later than advertised. They are always going to give RL priority up here. I dread to think what things will be like come finals time.
Yes typical of the AFL its going for quantity of dollars rather than quality of coverage.
It means that we will get to see every bloody Collingwood game - with Eddie at the microphone banging on (in an unbiased fashion of course). and as the SBS coverage at my place total crap - I will either have to move, install foxtel or get a new aerial.
It will not benefit the Northern States - and if PBl are in charge - they will do what ever they damn well please with the game - but I can guarantee that Rugby League will take priority despite what is said. This is not a good move by the AFL
Not happy - I preffered 10 & 7 (even with Quartermain)
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I think that some here are getting ticked off without knowing what will happen in the long run. And let's face it, until all deals are done none of us know what will happen. Don't count 10 out of the equation if 7/10 can't match the 9 bid.
But Channel Ten bears watching, even if it and Seven don't match Nine's bid. Ten may still pick up one or two games on a Saturday because it is a proven a ratings winner, particularly on Saturday nights in southern Australia. But Ten likely won't have any finals because it would be very much the 'junior' partner in any alliance with Nine, which was why it chose to partner instead with Seven this time around.

I know there are those who dislike Eddie, but he would be flattered by the amount of power some on here are ascribing to him.
Once the 14 days are over and 7/10 can't match the deal of 9, then the real negotiating will start to take place. Don't be surprised if 10 gets a couple of games on Saturdays and we end up with the same sort of coverage that we have always had, 5 Free to air games and 3 Foxtel games a week.
I would be very surprised if 7 got anything out of 9 given the appalling way 7 treated 9 when 7 had the rights. That leaves 10, SBS and the ABC to possibly cover some games, with the majority of games being shown on 9.
I understand how bad the coverage in QLD/NSW can be, when I lived in QLD we were lucky if we got 3 games on TV a week, that was from 7, One was on Saturday morning (1.00am), one was Saturday arvo and one was Sunday arvo. 7 always gave priority to re-run movies on Friday nights and Rugby on Saturdays. So they are not the saviours of AFL coverage that some on here would have us think.
I know people will vehemently disagree with me on this, but I still believe that in 14 days the negaotiations will really start in earnest if 7/10 can't match the 9 bid. Only when those further negotiations are completed will we really have a clear picture of what games will be shown by whom and when.
Originally posted by Damien I will only think this is a good deal if Foxtel are allowed to broadcast live into NSW and QLD games that Nine wouldn't show live here...or if they have indeed gone into a FTA deal with SBS.
Well for those of you who are flush with enough cash to pay for your viewing, good luck to you. I couldn't bring myself to get Foxtel though on principle even if I could spare the dough. It's so full of ads it's a joke.
The rest of us will have to put up with the radio or a red-eye replay. So much for advancing the code.
I guess though we really should wait until the details are finalised but if history's any indicator, we're screwed.

I totally agree with you on everything you have said.
Packer has bought himself the AFL finals for 5 years with it's huge ratings and when you throw in the NRL finals it adds up to mega advertising dollars. Think of the cost of the Superbowl ads.
I agree that the coverage will be about the same we have now. Ch 10 will get the two Saturday games but they will miss out on the finals and will have to part with a few dollars.
We'll still be watching Iron Chef at half-time.
I'd hate to think of the Swans playing 8 or 9 Sunday games again, much prefer Sat night but that's not important.
If you love AFL in the northern states, you just have to have Fox Footy. Fact of life now. I love my FOXTEL. I'd just wish they'd show Iron Chef repeats and bring back Rawhide!!!!
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

I have seen in Canada with my own eyes how sad it is to have a generation of kids who have NOT been brought up on live sport at all. Their 'connection' with their NHL ice hockey stars is via the television only. And Rogers Cable at that.
I shudder to think that that would ever happen in AFL. Rugby League yes, but AFL no.
I'm disgusted in Adrew Demetriou to the point that if I saw him in the street I'd sock him one. All this talk about developing the northern states is utter hogwash. All this creep is interested in is moolah moolah moolah. Playing finals on Friday nights to cater to TV audiences rather than fans who travel long distances was only the beginning. As we now have seen.
Then again, that is why he is so 'intere$ted' in the $ydney 'market' isn't he. Because he knows that if big business from here invests in the game, the AFL will get more money. And more money = more power. More power to be an obnoxious bully and arrogant twat in dealing with other football codes, something good old Demi appears to do oh so well.
I'll follow my club to the hilt. But at the moment I just hate the AFL. Apart from watching Swans games, I think I'll be going to more SFL games this year. As I'm becoming increasingly disillusioned by the way the game is heading, both on and off the field. But most importantly by how it is run.

While AFL clubs largely applauded the PBL deal and its financial rewards, the Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions are concerned about the rights going to a free-to-air network committed in NSW and Queensland to rugby league.

Thank you for the information re 7 & 10 - hope those articles are right - very much want 7 & 10 to get the rights.
Damn Foxtel are as bad as nine - as way too many adds - we are paying for junk on fox as far as advertising interuptions and advertsiing re fox programmes.
Cant wait for 6 January to hear how 7 & 10 go - please please get the rights.
