Luke Ablett tried to take it to the extreme when one of the Kangas was shooting at goal, he picked up a ball out of the bin behind the goals before the shot went through, but was told by the umpire to wait. He tried to kick out as soon as the ball crossed the line, which is what I thought the rule allowed, obviously not.

Most of the games I saw on the weekend it was barely used & had almost no impact on the way the games were played.

Which begs the question - why introduce it in the first place?

        Pretty much.

They generally still waited until there was a clear option to kick to.

I wonder, given the coaches and players objection to it whether there is aconspiracy to not use the option and thus make the new rule defunct. On the other hand, it could just be there were no quick good options.

Agreed - there is no point in intentionally rushing if it's to an unnecessarily risky contest.

This article suggests a reason that the new kick-in rule was such a lame duck - apparently the AFL screwed up. Go figger.

One reason why it will have little impact in the pre-season comp is that teams generally don't rush behinds in this comp. We'll see quite a different result in the H&A season.

I hate how they keep tinkering with the rules of the game.

                  This one is ridiculous.

I have no problem with them changing the rules. I think some of them are good and should be introduced into the regular season. I just would like them to spend more time thinking about them a bit more to assess all the ramifications.

Did anyone see how stupid this was in the Haks Taigers game on Sunday. The ball went through for a behind so the defender kicked it in quickly (can't remember which side it was, but it was from the goal to the right of the screen). By the time it got to the 50m arc the goal umpire was still trying to give the all clear and it had to be called back. What is the point of having the rule when it doesn't work.

                      EDIT...Sorry forgot...Bump.

How is that not working? The player kicked it out too quickly. You still have to have the all clear.
