The Footy "Cards" in today's "Age".

Just whizzed myself laughing at the six footy 'cards' in todays AGE. They're keepers, the lot of 'em.

The best, without a doubt, is Tiger bending over to scoop the ball of the ground, a la Colin Hounsell of the mid-1970's. He's got the stupid grin on his face too, knowing full well how magnificently cheesy this whole thing is.

Special mention to Judea Ben Hur for wearing his 'serious face' and to Goodesy for the big cheek blow in taking a simple uncontested chesty. I'm just a little sad nobody did the big one-handed baulk like David McMahon did every year for about 10.

Have fun with Scanlen's Gum. Build a photo of the GF with the backs of the cards. Got got got got haven't got got haven't got. The sweet smell of the bubble gum and the dusting of flour.

    Grouse.

I had a poster of Mark Browning doing the baulk.

Scanlens gum and footy cards, those were the days. Kids these days don't know what they are missing.

What about the Ampol footy stickers?

Can't remember them, but I do have a set cut from the back of Kelloggs Corn Flakes, featuring Anton Grbac and Charlie Pagnoccolo. The Geelong hoops looked green.

      Ah youth...

I always remember the Ampol stickers because one of my mates at high school's Dad drew them. His Dad actually also "invented" identikit drawings with the Victoria Police Force.

I remember I used to get the league ones and I had about 20 consistant packets containing a card for Joe Thomas who played for the bulldogs....they just must have printed way to many of them, he was an ok player but no star

It's not too bad actually, my Dad said the shots used for the cards very much remind of him what the footy cards were like when he was a boy back in the 1970s.

Some very staged positions for the photos used I'll say.
