    Wayne Schwass

    Wayne Schwass battles depression

What a great player he was. Clearly great person as well, shame he isn't around the club more (that I have seen)

And doing the community and other sufferers a great service by exposing his personal battles in public. That shows some courage.

Good for him. He's always seemed like a decent guy and this is a great initiative.

I still regret leaving straight after the final siren and not staying to give him a standing ovation on his final game against Geelong (the dreaded game where we were overrun despite being up 28 or so points with 10 minutes to go). I was too pissed off at the time.

Anyways a champion player and great to watch in full flight.

If Steve Rogers death and now Schwattas story has taught us anything is that depression can inflict anyone even those that seemingly have everything. I was treated for depression 2 years ago and the only reason I survived the ordeal was that I reached out and was given help from a supportive group of friends and family. I urge everyone to complete the checklist on the following link and if needed please seek help contained within the site

Wow. Good on him for coming out and shedding some light on this illness. Interesting to read that his binge drinking after games was his way of trying to cope. I remember one night after a game in the late 90s where he was clearly drunk. Although he was extremely entertaining at the time, it's sad now to read what was the cause of that binge drinking.

I'm glad he was able to get help when he needed it.
