Forget the doom and gloom ... for years we have been slow starters. Take a breath ... actually have a nap ... wake up around Round 6/7 and then you will start seeing us build toward a solid season.

... and who really cares about the result of a practice match? Last time I checked, you didn't earn 4 points for winning these games. One only needs to look at Carlton's performance in last years Wizard to realise how important pre-season form is. This squad will be firing by Round 6/7 - anything better than 2 and 4 at that stage is a bonus.

Perhaps you need to lay off the cheer squad a little. Its getting a bit tedious to read your unecessary sniping at them at every opportunity, for whatever reason you may have for doing so.

Hey gang, had a cool time up in Queensland. Was at the match with Les Cygnes & a few other Swans fans who lived up in Queensland. Was a really pleasant relaxed evening at an awesome footy venue Cararra.

The match could be defined as such. A cagey 'standing-off' kind of affair with lots of chipped passes across half back from both sides for 3 quarters, with the Tigers breaking the shackles in the last quarter and running away with it. Admittedly it was only a matter of when it would happen I guess because the Tigers had lots of shots and goal in the 1st half but missed most of them.

The last quarter fade out is perhaps indicative of both our lack of fitness in comparison to other teams as well as the fact that Roos was not worried about the match too much and did not resort to flooding and bottling the game up to stop the Richmond forays forward.

Fosdike had eyes on the ball going for a high mark and was involved in a sickening collison with Brett Delideo. I'm certain he would have copped a nasty bout of concussion, as the smack of the two players hitting each other echoed around the whole ground.

The best thing about the night was the ground and the crowd. I LOVE Cararra. Awesome playing surface, a great relaxed family feel about the match, and a crowd that was actually excellent considering the teams playing. The outer ground was more than 80% full. It was just the grandstands that were not full.

I brought 3 of the flags up. Our gang plonked ourselves on the half forward line on the edge of the concrete terracing and the grassed hill. We met a few other Swans fans who were all planning on coming up to the away game in Brisbane and sitting with us in May.

All in all it was a good night. Cararra is DEFINITELY AFL standard. Kinda of like Geelong but 20 degrees warmer & with palm trees around the outside of the ground.

There seriously isn't any point reply to such childish drivel to be honest Cruiser. But thanks for your support.

I went up to the Gold Coast to support my team. I had fun as well. Enough said really.

                On with the footy!

Thanks for the report JF...your writing style created a nice ambience. Especially for us Tasmanians who are getting the wood piles in order at the moment for the winter.

I could almost feel the warm breeze zephering passed.

If we are supposidly a month behind everyone else in preperation, does that mean we will be a month out by Round 1?

I am also starting to wonder how long this excuse will be trotted out.

While I'm not that worried about losing trial games it is a little concerning that we haven't even come close in any matches this year.

I am particularly disappointed that we're not kicking bigger scores - still only 7 or 8 goals a match.

Hopefully round 1 will prove my concerns to be well off the mark.

I couldn't give a flying duck about preseason results.

The only interest is injuries and hoping that the team avoid them.

I too was at the Goldie on Saturday night. Was a nice relaxed atmosphere with a few feral tigers supporters raising the odd ire.

It must be said first that the swans were a couple of steps behind the tigers all night - and it was quiet obvious that a number of the boys were under done.(In particular Micky O, Nick D and Goodesy)
Having said that the free kick count was ridiculous as usual - I counted 6 stright clearances in the center in the 3rd Quarter to the tigers

A couple of points of note

Schneider looked terrific, he looked quick and fit and his left boot was penetrating as usual.
O'keefe looks to have bulked up since last season. Just needs to kick straight.
They definitely cant play, LRT, Richards and Vogels down back together, the richmond defence just ran it out at will and we looked immobile at best.
On that I think Super Ted will play down back, to perhaps release Leo to play the dashing defender role (until tiger comes back anyway)
Malceski will be in the 22 for at least the first month.
Spriggs and McVeigh look to be struggling, at best Spriggs can maybe play as a tagger.
Chambers will only play if there is an injury to Jolly or Doyle.

We will definitely start slow - but should be right come middle of the year.

Actually I found the breeze a tad cold to be honest. Even put on the trusty old Cheer Squad jacket in the first half before the coastal wind died down in the 2nd.

I cannot believe I actually travelled for a practise match. But hey I was in Queensland for work, wasn't it?

I thought he was terrible all night. Fumbling marks, missing easy shots at goal, passing to players often in a worse position than him or under pressure.

Am starting to seriously worry about Jarrod McVeigh. Seriously, the guy was a bloody passenger all night on Saturday. He lacks the body strength to get into the packs, so often just does not bother to get involved. Was a seagull for most of the match. When he had it, he too was guilty of flagrent overuse.

I hate it when our players just stand there flat-footed at half back with the ball waiting and wondering what to do with it. Our build-ups are often such painstaking affairs. Often the Richmond half forwards would not even bother going in to tackle the ball-carrier at all. They'd just peel back and mark up a man, thus meaning the Swans had to stand there for longer wondering where to kick the thing.

Pretty footy this practise did NOT make. That is why the scores were so low.
