    Lyon speaks

A surprisingly frank Ross Lyon has some interesting thoughts on McVeigh, Willoughby and Schmidt:

    Source

"Schmidt and Willoughby need to bang on the door and force their way in as there is clearly some question marks over them," Lyon admitted.

Clearly a wake up call for these two - I am sure its been reinforced at the club and not just in the media.

Some good news for McVeigh though.

One would think these comments confirm its make or break for these three this season.

I think its hard luck for Willo II and Schmidt. They are clearly talented (came to the club with big raps) but having to now dominate a league which is questionable as far as preparing you for AFL footy to break into a premiership team.

You'd think they'll need some injuries to get a game but not wishing harm on any of our seniors, I hope they at least get a shot to prove themselves.

And it sounds like Chambers will be in for the Bummers.

Chambers did spend a hell of a lot more time than Donkey (who was mainly used at FF) in the ruck in Newy so it's fair to say he's our number 2 for now.

Playing him in the reserves would provide little justification for his recruitment, so it's probably good that he's in the firsts to start?

Good news on McVeigh - when I see him while replaying old games I wince at his clangers, but I gasp at his skills when it all clicks. Just needs to click more consistently.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I think Lyon's comments are just a tad harsh in respect of Schmidt. He did dominate games in the Canberra league last season - not quite as much as Malceski but not that far behind.

Clearly Bevan is still on Roosey's birthday list.
