Why does everyone think we are going to be so Crap - Paul Roos
You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby Ziegler
I absolutely agree with Roos. We may have won a premiership, but it was by pretty slim margins at times. It would be ridiculous if he were to come out and say all the squad has to do is maintain 2005 levels of performance.
They are professional atheletes. Until such time as they win a flag without losing a game all season, there will always be room for improvement. If I was hearing anything coming out of Swans HQ I'd be pretty concerned! Let's face it, in 2005 the outcome was greater than the sum of the squad's parts, and if we are to repeat that in 2006 it's likely that additional improvement will be required (barring a complete collapse in all other teams!)
As for the Swans not having the most talented list ... I'd agree with that too. However, the mark of a great coach is what you get out of what you have. On that count, Roosey can only ever be give respect.
Worsfold ... yet to prove himself.
Thomas ... living on borrowed time IMO unless there is a flag in 2006!
You can have a group of uber talented players >> WCE.
But we have a team of talented boys who play together well. Hence we got the cup, they didn't (na na).
As for winning by slim margins, I actually liked the winning by 4 points.
I think having 5 in Mike Sheehan's top 50, with notable missing players in Nick Davis, Jude Bolton, MOL, and Paul Williams, our list aint that bad.
The best part is that all of our key players our right in their peak years (25-30) and so should be at the top of their game. Compare that to the Saints who some of their key people over 30 and possibly on the decline.
