    Selective reporting.

Collingwood has inducted Darren Milane into the club hall of fame. The Hun report makes interesting reading, but is very selective in what it says. Milane was killed in a car accident, that is fact, but what the report fails to mention is that he was drink driving when he ran into the back of a truck.

Having had a mate killed by a drunk driver I find it offensive that this is not mentioned in the article. The only hall of fame he should be in is the one for bloody idiots.

I can see you point but the Hall of Fame as I see it, should be there to recognise the achievments on the field, not what ever goes on away from the field.

There's a slight rewriting of history going on there.

Sure, the Hall of Fame is for on field achievements but the article goes into some detail about his death while omitting crucial facts.

We seem to do this with anyone that dies. We paper over the seedier part of their makeup. Just look at the garbage surrounding Kerry Packer. You would have thought a Saint had passed away the way the media carried on.

The paper should have highlighted the way Millane died as a reminder of what could happen if you drink and drink.

He was a good footballer whose memory deserves the honour he received. I would think the death of a young man, whether he was drink-driving or not, should be seen as tragic, not as a moral lesson. Those who loved him deserve more than that.

I'm not denying what you say Eirinn. My beef is with the article writer. Why mention the car accident if you are going to be selective about what you write. Either put in the whole story of his car accident or don't mention it at all. In the context of him being named in the Collingwood hall of fame there was no need to mention his car accident.

If you're not going to tell the whole story then why mention it at all? That's my biggest beef.

The only people who loved him were Collingwood ferals, the rest of us think he was a drunk who killed himself and was lucky not to have killed others.

                    Good point.

Reading the article, it was very short. I don't think it was necessary in a news sense to mention the reason for the fatal accident. But it is a little odd they mentioned it twice... probably just bad editing.

"cut down in his prime" is a little disconcerting however. It implies no responsibility of his own.
