    Lewis

Even though we lost to Essendon I was finally happy to watch an AFL game which was not the final series 05 (which I have watched routinely throughout the off season). I was disappointed in the loss and umpiring but overall happy with the performance of Goodes, Hall, Buchanan, Richards and Roberts-Thompson. I noticed LRT seemed to have a bit more confidence and not nearly as many holding your breath moments. I'm proud of the Swannies! I think O'Keefe looks great as does O'Loughlin. Come on guys - get behind the swannies whether they win or lose!

LRT turned is back on the game and let Lucas in for a gift mark.

Got to learn to keep his eye on the game at all times. Lucas did kick 4 goals on him so have to say he lowered his colours on the night.

Sure, LRT does still make mistakes but the point is he is improving and has improved considerably from the previous season. Lucas is a much more experience player. Have faith in LRT - Roos did on the night!

Having seen his (and a bunch others') evolution from green/solid players at Port Melbourne through to now has been really good.

Thought this thread was going to be about Dale. LRT has the terrific advantage of being so hopelessly useless at the beginning of his career that improvement to a poor player is considered a major achievement. He still does not read the game very well, still cannot kick, and still crashes headlong in packs - I tell you, it was not Lucas' footsteps that made Buchy squib...

I thought LRT played pretty well. There were fewer "what's he going to do?" moments, he seemed to be starting to read the play better than at the same time last year.

He actually made good poistion a few times took some good grabs, But as Nico said, he lost his man a few times and had to do a bit of catch up to get to the contest.

If his improvement is on the same scale as last year, he will be a sensation by years end.

He wasn't alone in that, Crouch was consistently 5 - 10 metres behind his opponent. Particularly in Q1.

And indeed, 1 of Lucas' goals was from a Crouch pass that found him all alone as LRT had run off him. Frankly I didn't think it was a particularly good LRT game, and it was disapointing that he didn't start but playing against Lucas is good for his development.

I felt that LRt struggled with the pace of the game. Especially in the 1st quarter where Essendon streamed forwarded in numbers into their Forward 50.

Correct me I'm wrong, but it was only in the 2nd half when he started getting the ball and helping with our attacking forays from half back. To be frank by the we were merely playing catch up footy.

I think LRt will be the type of player who win always make the odd blunder. I'll say it till I'm hoarse than I think he'd be far better served being a 2nd ruckman as opposed to a CHB. But then again the GF proved me wrong on that score.

I'm just scared that with the speeding up of the game thanks to the new laws that taller players like LRT may be found wanting in any position other than ruckman.

I'd still like Vogels in the team as well. I think he give us the option of a taller yet mobile player who can play both key defensive positions.

To be fair to LRT in that situation, when your team mate has the ball and is running from defence, aren't you meant to try and get away from your man to offer an option?

Not quite Lewis' fault that Crouchy muffed his kick.

No, I had no idea what you meant besides "it was disapointing that he didn't start". Did that mean something apart from what the obvious way to read it?
