"I don't think it's a fundamental part of the agenda," Colless said. "Anyway we've moved on and the ceremony is going to be all about love, peace, goodwill ... all that stuff.
"We might even embrace, cry and smash some plates."

I think its getting tiresome and counter-productive to keep making an issue of Demetriau vs Swans. I don't think there's any benefit in the short or long term for Sydney - we won the flag so lets get on with it.
Unlike others, I am not rushing to confur sainthood on Colless.
"As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk
I tend to agree with the view that this is whole issue is overdone and an apology is expected.

"At least 200 past players will turn out for the occasion, but the footballers who won it will be bunkered down in the rooms concentrating on getting their first four points of the season."
I'm hoping this is not the case.
1. It is a huge tradition for the players to witness the flag raising. Couldn't the players come out for their pre-run-on warm up spend a whole 5 mins lining up and witnessing the flag raising and then get back into their routine????
2. The players deserve to be honoured as receiving the flag. With the greatest respect to all the past players, it's about the list that acheived the 2006 premiership, they should be there to receive the flag. I'm sure most are familiar with the photo of the players watching the flag raising in '33, would be great to recreate that on Sunday.

From seeing it on TV before I always thought that the flag was raised just before the game when both teams were on the ground.

The Carlton President would more likely say 'There is no conflict of interest with me speaking with Andrew Demetriou...I won't even be in the same room'.

That is correct, if we do it the same as all the other clubs have doen before, the players and coach will miss the build up to the raising of the flag but will then run out and stand as one to see it raised for the first time.
