    Things change

The Fat Controller has set it straight why the league introduced the contentious new rules that so many (traditionalist?) are decrying...

"The whole world is changing. Technology changes, football changes, business changes, that's part of life and we have to keep in step with change," Demetriou said.
    Things change

Technology changes? Yep - a quick perusal of the AFL website convinces me that the AFL has managed to create the world's most complicated and ultimately useless website - that's change. I also heard that you can make free phone calls on Skype too and that can get croissants in a can. One can only agree with Andrew F. Controller, that technology has indeed changed, and the AFL MUST keep step by allowing players to kick in without the umpire waving the flags. This is critical so that we keep step.

Business changing? Well, yep the footy coverage we went from 7 to 9 & 10 and then to 7&10 so that certainly changed. Lately we've moved from quality circles to six sigma, and we've seen the rise of offshoring and the hollow organisation. That's some big changes alright. So its critical that the AFL keep in step by giving players only 30 seconds to prepare fo their kick at goal. Great example of strategic alignment between the AFL and global business change there.

The world is changing? Yep, 9/11, war in Iraq, global warming, AIDS, US twin deficits. I am SOOO glad that the AFL has kept in step with this monumental change by scrutinising deliberate out of bounds. Out of bounds is out of step - no more out of bounds!

    As for our skipper Baz...

"It's no secret we are going to play contested footy, so we'll be trying our best to get teams to play that way against us."
    Bloody luddite..
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

      Here, here.

Changes occur in many circles simply because people have to do things differently to justify their jobs.

What's the worst junk phrase to swamp the world of late..."moving forward".

I have said for my 54 years of speaking..."in the future".

But then again some change merchant not yet born will come up with that one in a few decades as the new buzz phrase, and will be followed adnausium world wide.

      Leave the game alone.

Nothing wrong with introducing new rules as long as they're well thought out.

Yes exactly.... And the mark-in-the-goalsquare one is the only rule that can be said was well thought out. The others are for the tip.
