I must admit I always thought #35 was way too high for him ; I think I pointed it out at the time. The Cats won't put him down but word is they didn't rate him that highly either. But I guess when you do recruit more mature players some have to be misses.

The last "dud ruckman" that the Cats offloaded continued to be a dud at his new club for a year and then surprised the football world by showing he could play some football.

Maybe Chambers will do the same.

Whether the Swans gave pick 35 or 51 for him was probably by the by. They could well have chosen Laidlaw with 35, given the evenness of the draft.

My concern was more that he was given a 3 year contract.

I can't help but wonder if the club see him as a stop-gap solution - cover for a year or two until Shaw/Ericksen are ready to play regular senior footy while also being insurance for Doyle due to him being so injury-prone.

I sure hope that's the way they see him because he hasn't shown anything to make it look like he's a vaible long-term option so far.

        I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

I dont think Chambers is worthy of being in the seniors.

Give him some time in the ressies.

But in saying that with Doyle supposedly out with a hamstring is it?

and Eriksen injuring his shoulder in todays reserves match.

Im not sure who we could bring up.

Shaw is playing well..but he spent alot of todays game in the forward line

I thought I saw Doyle out there briefly today for the reserves but I think it was probably Shaw - who certainly played, but not much and is on his way back from injury.

            Erikson definitely didn't play.

So for the moment, it's probably down to Chambers, or putting Goodes in there for a while.
Ericksen played but was injured in the first 10 minutes (9:55AM) i believe. Doyle didnt play at all - he would be my first pick to replace Chambers but Shaw has got to be a better option at the minute.

Not writing Chambers off but he needs to improve a hell of a lot.

The club was licking it's chops at gnabbing Spida Everett who sold Hawthorn out in wanting to come to the Swans.

Like the AFL is, noone is prepared to trade hard. Do three trades, let one be a flop and the other two bear fruit. Oh no, lets sit on our hands. See some US sports for a lesson.

Poor Chambers is compared to Jolly's super year last year.

Give it time, ruckmen need it. You put up with Stafford for so long. And god, forget Doyle.

Yep that's how I saw it too. Ericksen took the first bounce but didn't play much and never returned after he went off. Doyle was listed as playing on the scoreboard but I never saw him at all. Shaw played but only little in the ruck and more up forward. In fact Rowe rucked for most of the day.

So I guess we're stuck with Chambers for a little while just yet.

Why not put LRT back as a 2nd ruckman?

I have seen him play a couple of great games there. One against the Crows at AAMI in 2003 was probably the pick of them.

He hasn't got the smarts to match it up with the best of them. Brogan ripped us a new arsehole yesterday and this was the game that are under manned ruck division was tested and spanked accordingly.

I would do anything to have Jason Ball play only 5 mins each qrt. Jolly and Chambers combo will not bring us another flag anytime soon.

I tendd to take an interest in how our big men were doing and I'd like to share two little episodes from Paul's game.

In the first, Paul was chasing the ball and his opponent towards the boundary line, not only did he fail to take possesion but he somehow managed to het himself tangled up in fis opponent and accidentally kick the ball out on the full.
It wasn't good but one expects a little unco from a ruckman.

In the second, we had a free kick beyong the 50, one of the Port Ruckman had parked himself inside the 50 and Paul noticed what his opponent was doing, but was unable to decide what to do. Should he go to him and man him up which would congest the forward 50?
Should he stay out of the area and allow his opponent an uncontested mark?
You could see his indecision as these thoughts wandered across his mind, he took a few steps towards his man, then a few back, then a handfull forward again.
It was horrible to watch, thank God the free kick was taken because I had this somewhat surreal fear that he was about to try to entice Brendon Lade out of the area with a bag of boiled sweeties.

Hey! Credit where credit's due...he did manage to get a handball.
