    Kicking In

I have been to quite a few games over the opening two weeks of the season and have noticed something about our kicking in. We seem to be one of the only teams not really taking advantage of the new quick kick in rule. I have noticed most of the teams I have been watching kicking in quickly quite a bit throughout their games (not always as sometimes they have to have a breather, naturally) but I am still yet to see us use it at all. It almost seems as if we are pretending that this rule change did not occur, for what reason I don't know. I have seen teams flourish who have taken advantage of this new rule, quickly clearing the ball out of their back lines and getting it in to the danger areas. I am not sure, maybe the boys just are not fit enough yet to do the hard running required??? I hope this situation gets rectified pretty quickly and our game plan adapts to this new rule because if we keep going the old school style kick ins we are just not going to keep up with the other 15 clubs!

We learned a few weeks ago about trying to change the law by not using it..Maybe that's what they're going for..

Really I just think it's cause we don't have anyone who can carry it out. No-one with the greatest kicking, a Gilbee or Wirrpanda, and no one with great pace either.

      Our kick-ins are a long-standing problem.
If we keep going the way we are with this area we will be smashed by the Bulldogs, and anyone else who is prepared to kick and run.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

        Spot on

I agree with the comments on the kick ins...i was at the game and there did not seem to be a bucket of balls behind the goals. Also having a deisgnated kicker meant we did not take advantage of the new rule. Roos (and the defensive assistant) need to look at this quickly.

          Pretty much agree with that.

Noticed for the first three quarters the man would stop and wait and wait and wait for a chip kick --> frustrating!

Then in the last quarter half the time Ch9 would cut back to play the ball would be half way up the field indicating a quick kick in was taken --> it was much more effective and much more entertaining.
That's the problem with modern day medicine - there's no more natural selection of the species.
No wonder there's so many Collingwood fans.

Yep, we did our usual of kicking to the pocket, then having no option up between the 50 and the wing, so stand there forever and get called to play on and have to kick to a contest. And at the moment, we are losing a large majroity of contests at ground level.

We are one of the worst sides from the kick in. We were pretty ordinary at that aspect last year too, but we've fallen futher behind this year.

Its a lame-@@@@ rule but I guess lamenting time is over and time to abuse it.
