We got flogged. Not a lot to cheer about. Lots of sighing though.

i noticed that as well. it only looked like a third of the seats were occupied.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

That's about normal. I actually commented that looking at the concourses around the ground, there were very few empty seats, except in the CS.

          I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

I was going to make that comment but thought I would be howled down by JF. Apart from someone (I assume JF) banging a drum there was no noise from the cheersquad, and we were only 4 bays around from them. There was more noise from the Brewongle stand on the flank...and from the Power cheersquad about 10 bays away from us.

All I heard all day were the Power cheer squad (actually it sounded like they were yelling 'LR! LR!').

That & the 2 Yanks behind us. I think they were drunk.
But if they weren't, I wouldn't be surprised either.
Whether or not they knew what they were talking about is another matter.. ("come on ref!")
Hey, at least they tried though.

Like the team, they put their best foot forward last year and are now resting on their laurels.

Well it is a Swans members only thing..(ie no general public), maybe needs to be opened to the general public to fill the seats and make some noise

i was thinking along the same lines. i'm sure there are plenty of people who'd like to do it at least once but baulk at signing up for the whole year.

Hmm, strange you guys say this. Given the numbers we have in the bay I thought we actually did OK. There wasn't horribly much to get excited about to be brutally honest.

Yes, numbers are pretty low. Unfortunately there is nothing new on that score. They would have been worse had quite a few come up from Melbourne as well. It didn't help that apparently somebody lost the CS flags after the GF parade. Hopefully they will be back for the Demons game. A few regulars didn't come on Sunday, which didn't help.

I have given up fighting to try & make things better. It is all too hard & too much stress. There is simply not point wasting time and energy any more. All I do is get stressed frustrated & into confrontation with the club, who ARE at least trying to promote the squad via flyers in Membership packages & in the club newsletter.

Me, I'll just turn up to games, lead the chants, have fun with my mates & support the team the best I can. That is all I can do I guess.

JF, what the cheer squad needs is to find a new home. Your current position is horrible. Lousy view, big empty gaping chasm of a walkway behind you so you can't get the hill involved. The Noble would be ideal, but you'll have to get rid of Kenny first Good luck with that.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

I agree - I would join the CS but I wouldn't pay to sit in that place - can't see a thing.

I'm far too noisy for the families and oldies around me but I hope when we are having a better game they will join in.

It would be great if more members in the Outer came and helped out. I often run up the back & invite people down to help out.

But sadly the more non-members you invite into the bay, the more stuff suddenly goes missing. Sydney people I swear are the biggest kleptos around. People start taking flags off flagpoles & sneak out of the ground with them.

My ideal solution is not something that could be solved overnight. It is way way way too involved for me to even try to organise anything myself. It would involved packaging up some sort of subsided club & cheer squad membership for Auskick & junior footy players in the Sydney area.

We had mixed success in inviting junior clubs to come & sit with us a couple of years ago. Whilst it fills up the seats at one game, it cultivates a culture of people being after freebies, which is neither benefitial for the club & is not condusive to the juniors developing any sort of long-term identification with the Sydney Swans brand.

It is sad that there still no culture up here whereby people are clambering to get into the club's official Cheer Squad. We have filled up our allocation in Melbourne already, and have a waiting list of 40 down there. But sadly they have a very different attitude to following footy there.

Also as opposed to having "guests" invited to matches and sitting in the next bay with red hats that have been given to them, I reckon it would be heaps cool to have a Swans unofficial "drinkers support bay". People can then sit near the CS, have a beer, & help with the chants & cheers.

Lescygnes for example moved away from the Cheer Squad because he wanted to drink. I know others have been in the same boat over the years as well.
