    Speeding up our game

I don't know how you feel about this, but it seems rather starnge that the rules have been changed so that players can play on after a point is scored, but when a goal is scored the whole game comes to a stand still until the TV ad break is finished. Am I the only one on here who finds this to be highly hypocritical?

I was have a discussion about this with my wife and a Power supporter at the game on Sunday and we all thought that this situation was, at the very least, ridiculous. What do you think?

Ours is still the only game (I think) that starts and resumes after goals with a 50-50 contest, and that needs to have the structure of a bounce. Boundarys on the square only 8 players in etc. That needs a stoppage I feel, but it is annoying to see everyone ready to go, and the ump staring into the stands waiting for a signal from TV, however, I can't see that changing.

How would you see a faster restart after goals, forgetting for a second that we are waiting for TV?

No. The centre square restart is a 50-50 contest so speed doesn't matter. For the kick-in from a behind a team already has possession so speed is of the essence.

I guess the point I was trying to make was that Andy D said that to slow the game down they needed to speed the game up. This was the main reason for the quick kick in rule. But after every goal you still have players and umpires alike standing around waiting for a white light to come on in the grand stand.

Instead of getting a breather while the flags are waved they still manage to get it waiting for the ads to finish.

To slow the game down and create more contests they need to go back to two interchange players.

How much can realistically happen in a 30 second ad break that we would need to wait forthe ad to finish in order to resume the game?

How about making kicks under 20-25 metres play-on? Or imposing a rule where only a certain amount of players are allowed inside the defensive 50 at any given time? Kind of kind a centre square infringement but in defence.

Or what about making any kick from inside the defensive 50 that lands inside the defensive 50 play-on, so as to stop teams chip-passing the ball in defense to kill time.

Does anyone think these ideas are either rational or (more importantly) workable?

Or should I stick to banging drums and waving flags?

I think play-on for backwards kicks has been a real success in the pre-season, and I think it would be the only change I'd like to see.

My worry with "offside" in F50 would be that might stop someone like Kenelly going from fullback to kick a running goal, only to be called offside for stepping inside 50, these are my favourite passages in footy (a la vs Brisbane at TS last year), or a favourite memory of mine - McGuane for collingwood ( I think it got goal of the year, but I don't know which year)
