    Nick Malceski

    Time for drastic measures

Nick Malceski must play this week - and every week for the rest of the season

    Why?

The answer is a simple one

Nick Malceski has NEVER played in a losing match at senior AFL level

I believe this is the key to turning our season around

And he is going to be a star - period.

If Roosy was coaching the likes of Deledio, D.Thomas, Judd and the like, they wouldn't have played more than a handfull of games in their first and second years due to his policy of easing youngsters into senior football.

Roosy should bring em' in if they are good enough or show potential and pi*s off those duds like Matthews and Fosdike that are a detriment to the team....

Spot on, although I think you're being a little hard on Fosdike.

Remember though that because we haven't been totally crap for years we haven't got the top handful of draft picks whereby you could put them straight in and know they'd be good enough. Think back to the likes of Shannon Grant, Anthony Rocca, Darren Gaspar - didn't have to wait long for their first games coz we were crap and they were top draft picks.

I sure hope we don't have to find out whether Roosy would play the number 1 pick in Rd 1 of their first year at the club, but I suspect the attitude would be a little different compared with players drafted in the 40s, 50's and 60's.

        I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

Grant, Rocca and Gaspar were coached by Barassi and Eade.

I agree - and I'd bring Vogels in as well, and give him a go against Carlton and Melbourne. We definitely need to sort it out before Rd 5 - don't want to watch us get pounded by Geelong out at Telstra!

There are two reasons why the top draft picks tend to play lots of senior football early.

Firstly, one would expect them to be the better players.

Secondly, the teams they are recruited by are usually crap and hence the newly drafted players will frequently be able to earn a spot on merit.

When you have a team that is the reigning premier and doesn't have major injury woes, the chances are that however much potential an 18yo has, he won't immediately force his way into the team.

I'd like to see Nick string together some games this year. Definitely don't agree with dropping Fosdike. He's really developing nicely IMO and I thought was in the better performers last week.

I'd rather watch a competitive and continual finalist every round and season - than get excited about our 1st round draft pick

Right again Liz. The grass is as green at the SCG as it is at Punt Rd. Lets not try and apply the problems of Pagan and Wallace on our club.

This all extends back from Sydney always wanting that GUN midfielder and until we finish nearly last, it's not likely to happen. Most of it is Melbourne hype. Hodge is a champ, but the Hawks aren't, so what's the point?

I agree in the main but don't think Fosdike was among our worst on Sunday. Cerainly give the young bloke a go,and Vogels in for Richards and anyone for Chambers.

I agree... Although i think Matthews has shown his value to the team. rarely the worst. Fosdike should be traded. Malceski should be given a minimum 5 games in a row to settle. He will be a very good (at least) midfeilder, IMO. Pace, height and skill, just need confidence.

That's one thing Roos does well IMO - when he decides a youngster is worth a go, he sticks with him and gives him a run, a la LRT.
