    Collingwood alternate strip...what a joke!

The footy show just showed Collingwoods proposed alternate strip. What a joke! They have reversed everything on the jumper, so what was white is black and vice versa. So really it is no alternative at all, in fact it looks exactly like a darker version of the kangaroos jumper which is when they will wear the alternate strip. Absolutely ridiculous.

To be honest, that is all they needed anyway. Have one with a black back to be worn with black shorts, and one with a white back to be worn with white shorts. Will make a world of difference, which makes Eddie's earlier grandstanding about tradition and blah blah blah even more ridiculous.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

The problem is that their away strip (white with black stripes) is almost identical in design to the Kangaroos jumper. I always thought the idea of an alternate strip was to stop any confusion whatsoever when the teams are on the ground.

ALL Collingwood has done is to go back to their standard jumper from last century.

Well you can't expect more from Collingwood or Eddie can you? Why can't they just use their away jumper from a few years back (the one with the Magpie)?

That was suggested last night on the Footy Show, but it was never used during the home and away, only in practice matches. Buckley really looked quite uncomfortable and embarrassed trying to defend the proposal.

Not just the 1996-97 pre-season jumper but also the 2002-03 away jumper.

I didn't see it but did watch a bit of white line fever where they were talking about whether it was necessary to have away strips at all. I had to switch it off as they were really annoying me. I agree that the Bombers and Tigers don't need to have an alternative strip as you can quite clearly see the difference between the colour of the sash but there are situations where teams do clash.

It bugs me that the AFL doesn't take a strong stance on this they should just issue an edict saying that it will be done and not leave it to the clubs to choose. They shouldn't pander to some clubs just because they bleat on ad nauseum about stuff such as salary caps alternative strips and zones etc.

As for certain clubs droning on about tradition blah blah blah, just because it is traditional doesn't make it right. With an attitude like that the Southern states of America would still have slaves because it is tradtional.

I totally agree. However, they couldn't do that as black-based with THREE white stripes is so appealing to their guernsey maker and sponsor Adidas.

They could wear the Melbourne Demons-style jumpers of black and white (reversed North Ballarat-style) that they wore against the Port Adelaide Magpies. Fathead Eddie seems to have amnesia on this match.
