    Quick kick ins

So far this season we have had about 30 kick ins and as far as I can recall have not played on quickly to a man running into space even once. Last Sunday I'm pretty sure we waited and eternity for EVERY kick in and then either kicked short to the pocket or long to a contest. Pretty sure we conceded a couple of goals as a result.

Rnd 1 the stat was AVERAGE time for kick in Essendon 7 seconds, Sydney 17 seconds. Clearly we have not spent even 5 minutes of the last 7 months trying to improve our already shocking kick-ins. I believe we were last in the league for coast to coast last year and for getting the ball beyond the centre. And number 1 for chips into the pocket.

How I would love that to change tonight!

Barring the LRT handball in the last quarter, the Swans coming out of defence with the football only to clear uncontested players was great.

This fast-kickout thing will be pretty quickly be like the 1970's 'kick long to the goalsquare' - dumb footy, which is now kicking the ball away.

I thought the Swans' effort at bringing it out of defence was woeful.

They were slow to kick out, chipped it to the pocket, chipped it back to the other pocket, chiipped it to the flank, chipped it into the middle, handballed it back to the flank, handballed it back to the middle, did another little handball to someone on the edge of the square, then handball to someone running past straight into a nest of Carlton players...

They may well have had "blue tits" (though it was played inside) but Carlton are the "Blues", whatever a "Blue" is - i don't think it is a bird. I will accept a nest on Bombers (just) but would prefer a 'Hanger'. I think a "Choir" of Saints would be appropriate, a "Wharf" of Dockers, a "Grid" of Power, and a "I've lost my script" of Demons...

I believe the correct collective noun for Swans is actually a "wedge" of swans, though bevy, herd and lamentation are apparently also acceptable.

                  Lamentation seems particularly appropriate.

*edit* Apparently "wedge" is only applicable when they are flying, which is clearly not at the moment.

I didn't know we were talking collective nouns. If that is the case I expect all my descriptions were wrong (especially the Demons one). Never seen a lamington of Swans though

                      Nest of players? Wrong gender.

Our kickins versus Port and for some time yesterday are back to our appalling worst.

Against Port they zoned us off and we had no answer whatsoever....reminded me of Eade shortly before he left..once we were caught out we stayed with the same plan and the ball kept bombing back.

Whilst the players are out of touch as a group the tactics are awful, the kickouts are a coaching thing and need to be addressd pronto..

There were no turnovers from kickins or the next kick after a kick-in that I can recall from the Carlton game and that says it worked.

That was because Carlton had taken the 3 minute hiatus to set up a wall of blokes behind the wing.

maybe no hand overs dirct from kick ins but christ the decisions post kiick in were sometimes horrific....

just quietly I would like to thank my west coast buddies for telling me the score before the end as the game was not live on tv.
