Normally when you pay for a whole season/year of something up front you get a benefit - such as a cheaper cost per game (and more meaningful than $1). If for whatever reason you miss a game you've done your dough.
This argument of 'you're paying extra to support your club' reminds me of people who actually buy calendars and go to crap end of year functions and pay way over the top prices to pay for the players' end of season trip, as if they couldn't afford it anyway.
