    Reserves v Eastlake

It was a real thriller, only 7 goals in it this time.

    Sydney 7.2 10.5 15.6 19.10 (124)
    Eastlake 3.0 5.5 9.7 12.8 (80)

Goals: Grundy 6 Vogels 4 Prior 3 Wall 2 Schmidt Jack Doyle Willoughby

    - Grundy was too strong for his opponent
    - Vogels played the first half down back so he kicked 4 in 1 half.
    - Schmidt, Spriggs, Willoughby controlled the midfield easily.
    - Matt Davis looks lost up forward.

Injuries: As mentioned in the Doyle thread, he looked like he pulled his left hamstring, and Willoughby went off clutching his right hand/wrist adn seemed to be in a lot of pain.

    Edit: misread Wall for Moore.

    Thanks for the report ugg.

Vogels will probably be a chance to come in you would think.

      Thanks Ugg, shame about Doyle.

I gave the camera another bit of a bash during the reserves (was too busy swearing and drinking beer during the main game to take photos).

        They are at http://thesystemisdown.com/gallery/t...s.php?album=26

        Enjoy!

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Nice pics Des. Just looked at the one of Doyle (before he did his hammy) how much bandaging did that guy already have on him - thigh and both knees taped. Looks like a semi-mummy

Although almost all of his marks are uncontested, when his opponent does stay with him his marking is MUCH less assured.

But much happier when he went down back and Vogels went forward, win win for both players.

I didn't think much of Schmidt, he's slimmed down but he still looks nothing special. I thought Josh looked very good, his disposal is still brilliant, but he seems less easily brushed aside and and far harder at the ball than previously. We were just speculating about a debut for him before he was injured.
I also thought Laidlaw was good, and like Simon Phillips has good speed.

            Other News
Adam Prior is the best mark in the 2's, Punchless Ed Barlow is effective as the backlines designated kicker but he could do with a few lessons in defensive play. Kieran Jack plays like a junior Paul Bevan. Despite some good opposition from the Demons rucks, young Earl did a lot of the ruckwork took a couple of good marks but perhaps he ran out of steam a little towards the end.

              sydneyswans.com.au report is up.

It confirms that Moore did suffer a thumb injury, but no word on Willoughby.

Maybe Vogels could replace Davis as a tall forward, might help with taking pressure off Bazza.

At the suggestion / request of Cliff, the comments I wrote on the other reserves thread have been tidied up a bit, expanded and some photos from Des and Mike added. You can see the whole lot together here...
