Banners - are they necessary or a waste?

Who thinks the whole concept of banners is old hat and not the sort of good tradition that needs to be kept?

I remember the old days of H&A games at suburban grounds, the players would run down the race and through the banner. It was exciting because the race was all done up and the first thing you'd see of the players was when they burst through the banner just in front of the race.

These days the players arrive on the ground and then huddle before they go through the banner. Seems like a mere formality now and has miinimal impact.

As for the writing on the banners, I think you'd be lucky to read one every couple of rounds that's even remotely clever or entertaining. I'm sure the players don't look up and read the banner before they run through it.

Why not just drop this throwback to the past.

I like them. Kids seem to love them (mine certainly does).

I should add, kudos to you for adding options that allow me to still choose yes or no but also choose ROK!

I can certainly appreciate the kids angle. However, I think it needs to be more interesting than the formulaic approach it takes these days.

            Lol. Interesting Poll

Well it doesnt really matter in my opinion, doesnt really effect the game and the players so why get rid of it?
Like stellation said, kids seem to like them and you need something to keep them content otherwise they become nuisance's
lol. I find them interesting to read sometimes anyway.

Bloods does not have crepe manufacturing shares in his port-folio I see. I love all banners with references to "flying feathers" and "plucking". Next week's banner:

              FEATHERS WILL FLY
WHEN WE GET PLUCKED BY THE CATS
              WE HAVE THE CUP
              SO I DON'T GIVE A RAT'S

No concerns with that for the Sydney Cyggy, he'd have to get off his arse and actually do something to get near the banner. Cats next week, that bobble headed cat mascot is a WINNER and Cyggy is a LOSER.

I don't mind them - they can be quite good if it's a big game, or there's a milestone to be celebrated. However, most games, the message on the banner is quite lame, or a big ad (as was the case today)

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Where is Cyggy's scooter. I think we lose something without that.

Yes, but the true option should just be "Ryan O'Keefe is hot".

The current Cyggy could do with the help to get around the ground. Is Kenny in the Cyggy suit?

All the other mods keep deleting it because they hate me (especially Scott), but I keep returning it when they're not looking.
