Is Roos watching a different game?

Sometimes I think Roos has a DVD playing of a prior game in the coach's box and is watching that instead of what is happening on the ground.

Sydney coach Paul Roos was pleased with the effort of his players

"I thought we played some super footy, we probably played as well as we have played this year and even some times last year," Roos said.

"I don't think there is any problem with the way we are playing.

I actually sat through the Fox Footy replay this evening, something I don't normally do when we lose.

With the tension and drama of the live performance now abaited, I have to admit it was actually a pretty good game of football. Neither team was at the top of their form, by any means, but it was a real contest, with a good mix of attack and defence.

I also got a perspective I didn't get at the game live. Both teams had their moments, but the efficiency of the Dees forward line was the difference. Had the Swans come close to matching them in this department, they would have won comfortably. It was just one of those games when all their 50 metre shots just cleared the line while the Swans' ones fell agonisingly short. And two ripper kicks in a couple of minutes, from Bruce and Yze, were telling, particularly when set against Richards' woeful shot at goal at the end of the first quarter.

    Definitely one that got away...

      Liz, I think you're right.

I thought it was an unusually entertaining game for us. If only we'd taken our chances (and some of those chances were very very getable indeed), we would have won comfortably. Pickett was roaming about with horrible ease, why on earth didn't we start tagging him - even us punters in the stands could see that he was giving them a hell of a lot of drive off half-back, standing 10-30m clear.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Spot on. They kicked them, we missed them.

The premiers playing the team without a win shouldn't need so many 'ifs' to win.

I thought we played much better this week than against Carlton last week!
Sometimes we play good and lose other times we play bad and win - sometimes its just a luck thing.
But we need the four points, that is all that is remembered in a few weeks time.

The game itself was not bad; it was good to watch despite us losing. Melbourne didn't flood much and neither did we, and the result was a lot of exciting end to end action. It was a lot better to watch than the floodfest that Carlton played last week.

Now all I ask is a good game that we win. Unfortunately Geelong will be thinking the same. Like us, Geelong also had a narrow loss in an exciting contest and they will want to make amends next weekend. They will be using last year's final as motivation and I expect them to be tough opposition.
