    Very strange

Weird... if you google "laraby get smart" the number 1 result is an obscure AFL reference. Does anyone else get this?

Oh yeah, and so as not be be seen to derail the thread, Sat night's game is important to 2006, but not fatal to our finals chances. A loss should be fatal to a few careers but I do not expect that will happen either.
To be incredibly anal, it's "Larrabee".

Robert Karvelas was I believe Don Adams' bro-in-law. One of the funniest - if not the funniest - on the show.

Strangely the top 3 sites are AFL-related.

And was only in it for the last couple of years. Was actually a KAOS agent in an early episode.

              VERY important.

and if we don't win,it makes the road into September just that little bit longer!

              C'mon SYDNEY,show 'em your might!
Well done Craig Bolton for getting the co- captaincy in 2008.

                Definitely an important game.
I mean all the games are important, but this is a huge game. We cant afford to lose anymore games, three home game losses just wouldnt look good.
Anyway, should be good ill be there cheering them on!

Since I can't add anything else on importance of this game to Swans 2006 campain, I'm going to say only this. For crying out loud would the Swans at least play for club's pride if they loss the motivation to win the flag? Is it too much to ask?

I have a feeling that if we don't win, we won't get anywhere for the year. It's time to step up big time.

If we lose on Saturday it will be like watching paincam.

well if we don't step up on saturday we are a virtual premiership write off they'll be saying. could it be that it is the first time that a team that has won a premiership has edged close to the wooden spoon

The worst results by reigning premiers are the ones where they did not make finals:

                          Essendon 1994, 10th/15
                          Collingwood 1991, 7th/15
                          Richmond 1981, 7th/12
                          Hawthorn 1979, 7th
                          Hawthorn 1972, 6th
                          Carlton 1971, 5th
                          Richmond 1970, 6th
                          Richmond 1968, 5th
                          StKilda 1967, 5th
                          Melbourne 1965, 7th
                          Essendon 1963, 5th
                          Hawthorn 1962, 9th
                          Footscray 1955, 5th
                          Collingwood 1954, 7th
                          Melbourne 1949, 5th
                          Carlton 1948, 6th

So in the past 60 years of football, the premiers have only failed to make finals the following year 16 times.

Only twice have they finished worse than 7th/12 (equivalent to 9th now).

Worst two are Hawthorn 1962 and Essendon 1994.

The latter's flag was a lucky out-of-the-blue (pardon the pun) flag in '93.

The former's flag was its first after a 36 year wait!

Both started their flag defending year 1-3!!

My thought are that is if we lose tonight, are season might well be gone. I know this has been said before, but to lose 3 home games is just not acceptable.

That means we only have 9 left and would have to do some serious winning on the road.

Hopefully it does not come to that. If we do lose tonight we can almost kiss a top four spot goodbye. (at the very least)

A loss tonight, we can still make the 8 but we will have no hope of a top 4 finish and a realistic chance to defend the premiership.

A win tonight and we are still within calculations as long as we can string some W's together.

As per Scott's post, since Roo's took over we have managed to win the crunch H&A matches. Tonight is our first crunch match of the year, can we repeat the results of previous years.
