It was Kennedy, he was down the end which the siren was located. I suspect you'll find he thought he heard something but wasn't 100% sure and did not signal (as you have stated TV down the ground footage should confirm or deny that one). The timekeeper it seems has already stated he @@@@@@ up as he didn't look to acknowledge a signal and therefore didn't continue to sound the siren. There are confirmed reports of Kennedy running to the middle of the ground cocking his hear to try and listen for a siren after his inital reaction to thinking he heard something the first time.

He looks to the other umps for confirmation, they didn't hear it, probably due to the "Ball" roar with the ball on ground at the stoppage at that time, and he backs off thinking that it probably didn't sound if the other umps haven't heard it either.

He said originally he saw an umpire (I assume Kennedy) aciknowledge that he had heard the siren and stopped it, got on with his work, which I think is recording the time the qrtr went for, and about 10 seconds later someone bashed on the window to say it was still going. He then blew the siren again.

But TV footage clearly shows Kennedy talking to Nicholls, then the Freo players starting to celebrate until Nicholls waves Kennedy away. What a pretentious @@@@head. Surely if another umpire thinks he has heard the siren you would check, particularly when you consider the reaction of the Freo players.

I don't think STK are being smug. I think they didn't know how to respond. It's not like it happens every week.

What is Grant Thomas meant to say in a press conference? His job is to get the best results for his club. Why would they offer to give up competition points. Freo wouldn't roll over and give up the points if it was reversed and I wouldn't want the Swans to do it either.

"Play to the whistle" is a mantra all sports people are reminded of.

I feel for Freo but feel the Commission should call it the draw it is.

As the result of a timekeeper not following the rules and a failure in technology Freo have lost 2 competition points. They should be returned to them by the commission.

Speaking of failure of technology, the umpires should have earpieces so that they can hear the siren via the earpiece or some warning or indication that the match is over. Freo should be more concerned about the Derby because they're facing a red hot Eagles outfit.

No, that is wrong, and I am not just being pedantic about this. Freo have lost nothing. They may have been denied something that they 'may' be otherwise entitled to, but they have no been deprived of anything. They actually have 2 more points than they did on Sunday morning. On the other other hand, if the match is awarded to Freo, St K will have 2 points taken from them - 2 points they 'may' not have deserved, but given to them nonetheless. That would be a big call IMO.

On WLF, DHS suggested that Freo might push for the law saying a game's duration is 80 mins with the ball in play and that those 80 mins were completed.

The siren issue is a procedure for ending the game, but it is the 80 mins that defines the game, and with those 80 mins complete, the game is over.

Will be interesting to see how it pans out, and even more interesting to see what reasons are given for whatever decision is made.
