If Schmidt isn't going to play, what do you think the reason for naming him is?

The only thing that I can think of is to encourage him to believe that he's not far from a seniors berth, but surely you can achieve that by telling him rather than the rest of the world.

I wouldn't be suprised if Vogels, Dempster and McVeigh missed and we see the debut of Schmidt.

Seems to be the Swans way...players like Malceski, Dempster and McVeigh were named regularly as emergencies prior to their final selections.

Still it is telling all those in the Ressies that Schmidt is currently the next in line and tells the likes of McVeigh that he better pull his finger out and show a little more

We can't read too much into this list because it is in alphabetical order.

They have to name three emergencies. What is the point of naming any if they're not going to play?

Maybe it means he's playing crap footy at the mo? I havent seen a Brisbane game yet this season.

My tip is Schmidt, Dempster and Vogels to miss, but damn that's starting to be a strong I/C list. I genuinely hope Schmidt debuts soon, just to get a taste for it all, but Eski was just too good on the weekend to deserve getting dropped.

It's a game called "fitness test". If he wins he gets to play.

Aw, c'mon, it's the difference between just getting an 'A' on your paper that's slipped back to you surreptitiously, and the teacher announcing to the class 'little Timmy did an outstanding assignment this week and you should all congratulate him'. Only after getting named in the 25, the other kids don't beat you up.

Dempster keeps getting named an emergency/possible-but-won't-be I/C b/c the selectors feel guilty as they know he's actually part of our best 22, but don't have the heart to drop anyone.

I would be exceptionally surprised if we see the debut of Schmidt. When was the last time that someone was not listed in the 'out' pile on selection night, but was dropped before the game? Never that I recall, and certainly not in 2006. (Dempster has IIRC been the only player dropped and his dumping was named on the Thu night.) Only possibility is if there's a mystery withdrawal of a midfielder through injury.

Incidentally, Brisbane look like a pretty good side. They look like an exceptionally good side for the bottom team.

I know that they're well out of form, and lack depth, so if we can break their confidence early they'll be pretty brittle... but they're still a team with an exceptionally strong core goal-to-goal line plus a quality midfield. Those things spell big danger if we let them get their tails up.

Speaking of which: even if CBolt is getting a flogging, do not put Super Ted on Brown. Under any circumstances. Leo second, and if that doesn't work LRT for just 5 minutes to totally bewilder the guy while CBolt gets his breath back. I'd rather see Goodes play on Brown, than Super Ted... and that's saying something.

Are you talking on paper? The way the haved played in the games I've seen, I reckon Western Creek would give them a run for their money without swapping players.
