Aker certainly cost the Blions any vague hope they had of winning the game by giving away those crucial 2 goals in 90 seconds in the third quarter. That said, a lot of players having carried on like a goose and cost their team, would just drop their heads and lose the plot even further. Aker still turned around and made a clever goal for them in the last quarter. Unlike Notting, Power and Black, all of whom racked up pretty reasonable stats but never looked vaguely like hurting us, Aker really does something when he gets the pill.

Crouchy still beat him, though. And he would fail the DH test.

Just got home from Brisbane - my first trip to the Gabba - and am a reasonably happy camper.

It was a very warm afternoon in Brisbane and it looked as if it had an effect on the energy levels - Swans looked a bit sluggish at times.

I reckon it was a good, workmanlike performance, nothing too special but they were in control all afternoon and just did enough.

Who on earth was meant to be playing on Goodes? Most of the afternoon he was wandering around on his own, and he's not the type of player I'd have thought a coach would want to be left "spare" (the opposition coach, that is).

Goodes aside, I thought it was just a decent all around performance, but particularly pleasing to see gradually improving contributions from the likes of McVeigh, Dempster and Malceski.

A couple of brain farts aside, LRT on Brown was encouraging.

Also very nice to see so many goals contributed from the midfield. Swans have been pretty ordinary at this since the retirements of Kelly and Cressa so to have Bolton x2, Kirk, Crouch x2, Nog x2 all score was encouraging. Mind you, with one of our forwards injured and two of the others completely "off" with their goal kicking, it was a good thing too!

That was Tim Notting and he was certainly too loose on Goodes. He got a fair bit of the ball himself (20 posessions) but was no where near as damaging as Goodes was with the pill.

Don't think he'll need to - it will probably get withdrawn, as will Johnson's.

Was worthy of a free but nothing more. If we start rubbing players out for that we might as well all start watching netball.

The one in the 3rd term was even more confusing as the Ump was signalling play on after the ball had passed the pair, and then changed it to a free.

                  Agree, nothing much in either.

                  However, stranger things have happened.

Very similar to Hollands on Hird the other day, will get a week methinks.

You could physically see the pressure rising, got beaten in a couple of contests, then the HTB followed by the bitch slap, then the (IMO pretty soft) high free on Crouch when he was putting the sheperd on Ablett........... BANG!!! he's gone. Champagne stuff.

Then before play starts in the last you can see him chatting away to Crouchy, chat chat, Dermie suggested trying a suck up to go easy on him at the tribunal.

If we trade out of this years super draft for a couple of aging players then we will find ourselves looking like carlton in a couple of years time.

I will be extremely disappointed if Roos and co take that path this year after passing on the early rounds over the previous 2 drafts

                          If it gave us a flag in 2007 and/or 2008, I wouldn't mind.

They were both pretty soft, the only thing I could possibly think of for reporting them is the new points system (so if they do it three times it might add up to a week). That is just mindless speculation, I haven't bothered to look up how it really works.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

But will it? Will Aker unite or destabilise the team spirit?
