    Thanks umps and Eagles?

The BOG GF thread raises another question I can't bring myself to think through. If we had not been robbed of the QF at Subi by one incorrect free and one trip not paid, would we have been more or less likely to have won the GF?

We would then have played the Crows at Telstra in the QF? Would the Eagles then have played the Cats at Subi in the semi?

Did we need the toughening up of that extra game? Or did we win the Premiership despite it?

It's not unreasonable to suggest that if we had approached our game against Adelaide the way we approached the game against Geelong we would have been knocked out.

West Coast would be playing StKilda in Melb, and I think they would have lost.

Thus could have been an Adelaide v. StKilda GF, and I think Adelaide would have won.

The world is full of what ifs and buts. Whatever the case we played the hand that was dealt to us and we won.

I actually posted at the time that losing the final would prove to be a blessing in disguise as that combined with St Kilda's win put us on the other side of the draw of both Adelaide teams and West Coast.

Those who ignore history are condemned to repeat it.

In this instance, I think we should ignore.

But we wouldn't have played that week, so the mindset might have been very different.

We would have won anyway. It was destiny (the Geelong game proves that).

But its not history. Its just irrelevant 'what if'.

Considering what ifs is part of looking at history and considering what might have been. What's the harm in doing so? It's irrelevant to what?

I fail to see how anything can be learnt by what-iffing about the result of last years QF?

What if Germany had taken control of Britain in the second World War??? What if America had of adopted German rather than English as their first language??

Well, we might not be watching AFL football at all!

Ah, one of my pet loves (and hates), discussion of the space-time continuum or more specifically the cause-effect phenomena. Any "what-if" could have changed our premiership outcome last year. Leo goes down the line instead of switching play across the ground in the first 5 minutes of the QF at Subi and the whole game is TOTALLY DIFFERENT. Noggy kicks to Leo instead of Cousins in the last quarter of the the GF and the game is different from then on! Maybe we still win, maybe we don't. (In hind sight, I'm rapt Noggy made that error) All we can say is that EVERY tiny decision by every player throughout the final series created the oucome that unfolded. Change a handball to a kick and the script is different. People say BBBBH was stupid to hit Moose Macquire in the guts! Maybe, but maybe if he didn't we don't win that game and thus the game after. The result is, because it is.

On a different, but similar tack I can't stand people like Drew Morphett saying "He should have kicked ten goals, not three. He missed 7 easy ones." Reality is, if he kicks the first "easy one" the ball goes back to the centre - different game, maybe different outcome, maybe the the guy does his knee two minutes later and never plays again! Maybe a handpass instead of a kick in a game a couple of years ago and Saddo doesn't do his knee and is part of our premeirship team last year. Who knows!

We only know one reality - The mighty Swans were premiers 2005.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.
