Robbie in, I think that’s the right selection.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Yup. There are three parts to Mills game, and they’re not completely replaceable.

Leadership and organisation. Only Rampe matches that down back.

The midfield skills to scoop up ground balls or be the release player for the bloke that does. Ollie early in the year was doing it and may be asked to do a little, though he did get a bit fumbly mid season. Lloyd - nah. He stifles our ball movement because he’s conservative and has been excellent on the wing. Juzzy - please no, he’s half the player down back. Roberts - who has been playing higher - will most likely fill some of that role as he’s got clean hands and an ability to hit kicks.

Giving us some marginal extra height in defence to let Blakey play free. That’s the one for me. And the versatility Fox offers.

We are potentially one short in the midfield, but it’s all a trade off.

As for the hint Adams has spat the dummy, life is tough in a side in contention. I hope it’s all just speculation.

If Adams has spat the dummy, then that is on him. He can't play off the half back flank in any form - he is a midfielder, and that's it. We've gone like for like picking Fox - I think he will be in the starting 22 (Campbell maybe again the unlucky man that is sub).

I agree we might be one short in midfield - but I think its the risk we probably had to take. And we know Fox has done good jobs in big finals before (one of our best in the 22 GF disaster for instance).

As has been noted elsewhere but not in this thread that I can see, we have Francis as an emergency, but Taylor is not listed as an emergency, which could be for illness/personal reasons, or the hinted dummy spit. A tough time for him, he has helped us get to the minor premiership, but his form doesn't warrant selection in the finals.

I was thinking that Fox would be sub, with Campbell coming into the starting side. But perhaps that depends on how fit McInerney is and how well he's been performing at training? If he's not quite right, then maybe Fox starts and McInerney is the sub? Personally I'm hoping for a fit McInerney, as he gives us a bit more midfield dynamism and grunt.

disapponted that adams misses out (chased him not them chasing us), will be really "pi" iff luke goes at seasons end the selectors forgot about him.

Definately agree its a case or Luke or Taylor and I rate Luke higher.

Maybe Adams is what got Grundy over the line cos otherwise it doesn't make sense especially if we lose Parker out of it

Unfortunately for both I can see their opportunities drying up, +30 for a midfielder is a dangerous period.

Would love to keep Parker but again makes little sense when Taylor has 2yrs left.

Against Port Adelaide in Round 21 these Swans players played who will not run out tonight. Adams, Francis, Mills (2nd game back), Wicks, Ladhams, Cory Warner. Rowbottom went off injured. Playing this time round are: Papley, Rampe, Melican, Campbell, McInerney., Amartey. Today's side is a big improvement on Round 21.

It will be our first game in 28 days. I really hope we don’t have another slow start and then have to rely on a late charge to win.

Will make for a very nice start to the weekend if we can win tonight. If we lose, I will be rooting for Brisbane to take the flag, but not interested enough to watch the last two finals!

Could not ask for a nicer evening. A lot of red and white around already.

Getting nervous now - but hopeful we will bring our best. Come on your mighty Swannies!

That's not correct. Our previous game was against GWS 13 days ago. 7/9/2024 3:20 - Sydney 13.10(88) d GWS Giants 12.10(82).
