Sydney trailed at half time but went on to win. Lobster was too drunk to drive by 1.30pm and hence did not make it to Manuka - aftermatch function subsequently cancelled. Umpires were @@@@.

You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby Ziegler

Simon who? I'm on the front seat of the Spriggs bandwagon beside the bovine one.

"Belconnen had 10 goals on the board before it kicked its first behind and went to the half-time break 16 points ahead."
Swans midfield must have been doing a Port.

"Sydney stormed out of the blocks in the third quarter as midfielders David Spriggs and Josh Willoughby finally won their share of the centre clearances."
Leaving aside the Spriggs bandwagoners, I find it interesting that Josh was getting clearances, heretofor not his best feature.

It will be interesting to see if he gets a game before Spriggs gets another chance in the Seniors. Spriggs' form in the pre-season and his continued form in the reserves, vastly improved footskills a big factor too- he could always find the pill, must have him close to the top of the list for midfielders waiting in the wings
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

If this continues there could well be some list turnover come years end as listed players make way for rookie elevations. Four rookies named as the teams best in the Swans website report, Jack and Phillips in the best two weeks in a row now. Good stuff.

21 listed players on the park for the reserves. Not a solitary top-up. That's a tough ask for the Canberrans to come up against.

Even if all of our rookie players turned out to be @@@@e (and even if the only prospective retirement, Williams, pulls the pin), there was going to be an ugly senior list bottleneck this year. Adding to our 'woes' is the fact that at least a couple of the bigger rookies look like good 'uns. That many bodies into 38 just doesn't go, particularly with the mandatory 3 draft picks on top, so there'll be no time for sentiment come October. In a weaker club Jack and Phillips would be in line for senior list promotion, but here I think they'll have to settle for a 2nd year on the rookie list.

Players who need to start getting themselves in the best players regularly or there could be tears before bedtime: little Willo, Stefan Garrubba (R), Paul Currie (R) and Matt Davis. Re the last in that list: the club doesn't write "he will have to make his move this season..." in his profile on its official website for nothing.

Unless he gets a call-up in the next 5 weeks or so, Spriggs could win the award for Greatest Player To Step Into the ACT, Ever and he still wouldn't be with us in 2007. Good to see he's worked on his disposal, though. If he's going to get a chance, I'd rather see him get it against Hawthorn than St Kilda or Adelaide.

I'm not sure that Currie belongs on that list. He's had a few injuries early in the season but from the little I'm seen of him I think he looks the most promising of the bigger men.

Will be interesting to see how many rookies they retain for a second year. I don't think they've kept more than one a year for the past few years - except of course they promoted 3 to the senior list last year. Before that McGlone, Bevan, Potter and Garruba I think are the only ones to get a second year. (I'm not going back as far as the Bennett era.)

There's a long way to go yet but all of the current crop have shown something promising.

Having not seen 'em, I'll take yr word for it. Just basing my conclusions on the fact that Wall, Prior, Rowe and Barlow have all had one or several positive mentions in the game write-ups so far.

Having seen them a couple of weeks ago Wall and Barlow are going to take some time as they are both slightly built however Currie already has a strong build and he is a damn good mark I suspect they will perservere with him.
                              cheers Ian

I'll keep saying it: Schmidt and Willoughby deserve a chance in the seniors. It must be frustrating busting a gut in the 2s and not getting a look in.

Ben Mathews' spot is the obvious one.
