John Longmire/Coaching Change?

With Hinkley announced as the Tassie coach and reports Carlton have narrowed their coaching shortlist to 4, in which it doesn't include Longmire.

This leaves Essendon as the only other coaching vacancy, which is draped in the returning Hird spectre. I think Horse is unlikely here as well, unless they now to decide to make a big play for him after he lost out the Tassie job, which was his main interest imo.

Their loss is our gain, as the club is desperate to keep hold of Horse in his current role which he does enjoy.

My understanding is he’s thoroughly enjoying his role, was only ever curious but never committed to the Tassie job, and has no interest in the other two. Zero in fact.

Ii may be mistaken but I think that Buckley will get the Tassie coaching position. Horse seems to be liking his current position with the club and I think that Hinkley is enjoying his media work.

John Longmire in the news this week:

He is on the shortlist to be the Tassie coach (along with Hinkley and Buckley). It's reported he's keen on coaching again but also enjoying his current role at the club, which they're pitching to him to remain.

Longmire is releasing his autobiography next month in which it details the Buddy recruitment. Read some extracts. Nothing really new, other than the text messages which flowed between Buddy's manager Liam Pickering and Horse, which started in mid 2012 when Buddy first expressed his interest to come to us.

Horse and Andrew Ireland initially thought it most likely won't eventuate any further, but were caught out when Pickers sent Horse a text that Buddy was upset we where chasing Tipett after the 2012 GF. Buddy quoting he is 95% sure of wanting to play for us (and not the Giants).

The rest is history with the secrecy, especially with Pickers also being Aliasr Clarkson's manager along with Horse.

Its a must watch John Longmire on the Front Bar last night.
He was so good natured and genuinely funny, you just put
an even higher value on him aa a person.
He didnt hesitate to blow the lid on Buddy deal . Wow.

Really enjoyed that Front Bar segment - looks like a weight is off his shoulders after a long time as a senior coach. Quality gentleman and funny guy to go with it - very enjoyable!

And the insights about the Buddy deal were fascinating.

Glad they acknowledged Horse got us into 5 GFs, even though we only got to win one. We got smashed in 3 of them and 1 other we were shamefully robbed Despite this poor strike rate, making it to the big dance 5 times would be the envy of many AFL coaches.

Hope Horse receives a big reception by the faithful on Sunday.

I was just about to post much the same thing. While occasionally Horse made me chuckle during his coaching career and while I knew that he was popular among players, I was unaware that he's a genuinely funny person. Though I suppose that it's helpful to have Mick Molloy and Lawrence Mooney throwing lines at you.

It was reported on one of the myriad of footy shows during the week (Caro on the Agenda Setters I think), that the club will officially reconigise Longmire with a lap of honour before our next home game against Port on Easter Sunday (April 20).

Not sure why it wasn't organised before either of the first 2 rounds at home, but glad to see it happening nevertheless.

cox says defence is a focus. and hes thinking about a move fro tmac. backline will be short but quick, not sure who will mark the tall fwds.

Logan has been moved down back at certain stages of the game to shore up the defence. Also McLean has been suggested by a few on here. Moving Tommy forward from time to time to change things and introduce a degree of unpredictability could be a good thing, but I suppose tightening the defence will depend a lot on some of our youngsters stepping up. A really quick backline with adequate intercept cover is an exciting way to go!
