I like this snapshot of comparing what we traded out to trading in. On paper, it does appear to address our pressing needs and improve our list. Tick.
I was lukewarm about Charlie, but glad it got done in the end due to just how deep we got involved with Will & Ollie.
Commentators have mentioned it's one of biggest trades seen in terms of capital to secure Charlie.
We've strategised based on the 2027 draft being heavily comprimised with the Tassie Devils and future Academy prospects.
Excited to see make up of our team next year, with fleet of small forwards feeding off Charlie & co and the Lizard playing further up the ground.

not a happy chappie. did curnow take a pay cut? and are we still in salary cap problems. not sure how we can match bids for academy players. cal twomey latest rating for king is 23, for carmichael 37 and kyle 35
Can someone explaing to me how we match evn at the picks we have letalone at lower pick. and that goes for 2023 and 2027 as well no first rounders, How do we cover by going into deficit.
King 23 (653 points), Kyle 35 (338 points), Carmichael 37 (297 points). Total 1288 points. With 10% discount, that's 1159.2 points.
Superficially, it appears Sydney is 123.2 points short. However, Brisbane and Gold Coast will be using up so many picks recruiting from their Academies that this hypothetical deficit would be wiped out before the draft reaches pick 10. Indeed, so many picks could be removed that pick 63 could end up bearing points.
Top 10 prospects tied to Academies, Twomey's rankings:
2 Zeke Uwland (Gold Coast).
4 Dylan Patterson (Gold Coast).
5 Daniel Annable (Brisbane Lions).
Gold Coast's picks: 15, 18, 24, 28, 29, 36, 52
Brisbane Lions' picks: 17, 23, 44, 51, 59
I expect both teams will swap out their later first-round picks for more points before the draft. Brisbane and Gold Coast will use up about 10 to 12 picks between them to draft these three players. I won't run the numbers, but those four picks in the 20s will probably all get used to match bids. If so, pick 31 would become pick 27 (533 points). The improvement in value for that pick alone (104 points) would almost wipe out the deficit. Improvement in the values of the other picks will take care of the rest.👍 2Leave a comment:

maybe we will bundle some picks this year for a higher pick?
maybe live trade our picks and or future array of picks
Im also guessing we will trade out in 2026/27 as we have done this season and last few seasons with Hewett, Parker and others
Not sur how much you can go into deficit ? Probably others here can share this knowledge
Most of those picks will disappear and ours will shuffle upLeave a comment:

It's a lot to pay, but we could have an amazing forward line. I like the look of Serong. Perhaps a Craig Bolton or Ted Richards style recruit? He might free Blakey up from having to defend to being able to play a bit further up the ground and to use his pace more effectively. Rosas is elusive and will hopefully be able to add to the forward half pressure (someone has to!).
Pleased we have some points to match academy bids this year, but we might struggle over the next couple of years with no first rounders.
Sad to see both Will and Ollie leave. Solid performers and I hope they have a good time of it at Carlton. The early morning recoveries in Port Phillip Bay will sting compared to the beaches of Sydney's eastern suburbs. And the Carlton fanbase too, what a collection they are.
As for Buller, well, that was disappointing. He finally gets fit, starts to show something and then rides of into the sunset.👍 1Leave a comment:

As Thunder mentioned -
2025: picks 31, 32, 42, 63. (1036 points).
2026: R2 pick, R3 pick (Carlton), R3 pick (Collingwood), R4 pick (Hawthorn).
2027: R2 pick, R2 pick (Carlton), R3 pick, R4 pick.
I suppose u could look at the below players in and out like -
Rosas for Hayward
Curnow for Buller
Serong for Ollie
and as we can see above re picks ….. if we feature high on the ladder and Carlton near the bottom (next couple seasons) then we still have pretty good utility with our collective picks
for me future first round picks and or second round picks have a vastly differently value depending on which clubs they are tied too
Rosas is 3 years younger than Will and despite only 50 games in the AFL he averages a goal a game ie not much different to Wills average. Rosas can post up, entry at a very high standard on his slicing left kick but also play a complimentary picking up the spoils and goal type role at probably half the annual contract as Hayward.
Curnow for Buller - Charlie last 4 seasons 64,81,57,32 goals but imagine his opportunities with our elite mids and forward smalls distributing to Charlie !!!
Serong for Ollie - we needed a cut off 192cm player is very athletic. He has been coached by Sam at the Hawks who I think has done an incredible job of squeezing everything out of his team. The individual sessions I have watched online of the behind scenes one on one coaching by Sam Mitchell is absolute gold to listen to.
Such incredible scenario coaching with all the little tiny adjustments as options for his players to consider. Subtle yet evolving.
Hawks had a very good backline that punched way above their weight last two seasons. U would guess Sering is ready to take next steps on the HBF and on the SCG that is almost Winger ?

While I wasn't too excited about pursuing Curnow, now that it's done, I'm pretty happy, as long as he stays fit.
As for the players we lost, let's face it, we were never going to win a flag with Buller or even maybe Ollie and Will, who has gone missing in our last two GF's.
People have complained in the past about Horse having his favourites, implying he was persisting with mediocrity....well, Coxy's got ruthless to bring in an A grade talent. Time will tell if it's the right move but something had to change after the last two GF capitulations.
I for one am happy that it also puts the whole playing group on notice.....'don't get too comfy'.
PS: Hopefully Buller doesn't win a flag with Collingwood or I'll be eating my words!
Something had to change, we have lost 4x GFs in a row.
Hoping all our talls stay fit.
Tough to swallow but cant see how would Buller fit into this side. It's Charlie time now.
Glad we still had one eye on the Academy, will be even happier if some of them get Early games
As I said before, love Ollie and Wilbur, played one out of position and played the other without any tall help. Were great for the club and appear to be loved by the group. The positive for them is with 4/5yr deals i don't think either would have ended well in Sydney👍 3Leave a comment:

Not too sure if Ollie would have had a game with us next year. But would be sad to see Hayward leave. He was solid performer and played through a lot of injury through games. Dedicated, team player.
I hope we can get Charlie not doing stupid dump kicks from outside 50 and get him doing good field kicking too besides taking sensible shots at goal. I am sure Papley is licking his lips with this one.
McLean days are over.
Logan, Amartey and Curnow now seem great. I reckon Logan may get off the leash a bit given the threat with Amartey and Curnow if they are on the park together !
Serong will be good as a defender. Good solid height too.
This combo may get us a prelim, But again looking at the grand finals over the last few years, the only ones who win it are the ones with great midfield depth and dynamic midfield. I am not sure we have addressed that.Leave a comment:

As an aside, the Swans are pretty peeved with Buller. We will pick you up as a mid season draftee, nurse (and spend a ton of resources) through nine months of a back injury, give you a game and you say hoo roo. Plus apparently like The Rat and his move to Adelaide, he didn’t even have the decency to tell them in his exit interview.👍 2Leave a comment:
