I've been saying that for a year. A long low penetrating kick from a leftie is one of the prettier sights in football. The penetration is the important part - a 50m pass from the Fridge will take 1/2 sec less time to arive at the target, that's less time for a defender to close in for the spoil and is a priceless attribute.

He just seemed to caress a shot from 50 out on Saturday, but it split the middle and landed in the Tigers cheer squad. On the run I reckon he could kick goals from 60m out.

Mmmmm, I reckon Bayes was a bit more a a raker as far as kicking style goes (rather than arcing the ball tends to traject more as a straight line then loops down at the end). Mal seems to be more genuinely penetrative and arcs it a bit more than Bayes.

He has certainly arrived...of the names listed...definitely more of Bayes than the others...but perhaps with more confidence / experience & increasing expectations from the coach...just possible could develop a bit of Schwass...let's hope so!.
For the moment he is a fully certified "blood" in my book...& Matthews is just an understudy to our best team.

Dale is the only one called Dale . . . .

It would be good to see Fridge play all 25 games this year. Personally, I'd have him in our top 18 on present form.

Of course, if we have to play a QF, SF, PF and GF, plus a replay of the GF he could make it to 25 games...

I potted Malceski after the Optus Oval practice match on the basis he didnt want the hard ball on a couple of occasions. Skills were ok but not hard enough.

Got to say though his work on Saturday was pretty good even though the opposition was shizen. Had 6 kicks 6 handpasses, 3 clangers and 1 free against. Not that impressive on the stats, but balanced it up by 3 goals. Kicks 3 a week will do me.

Clearly his work around the goals was quality. As someone said, lets wait until he is on really quality opposition.

For the forseeable future, he's not going to attract the opposition's best defenders, not while he's operating around Hall, O'Loughlin, Davis and O'Keefe. It is true that the Richmond defence was severely undermanned on Saturday but Hall and O'Loughlin were the major beneficiaries of that.

Big Mal is certainly a tough competitor, reminds me of a "new age Maxfield" but with extra run. His captaincy of the UNDEFEATED reserves side last year has held him well.

What's the bet he has a shot at captain some day, barring injury?
