    Locket speaks

I think its a shame that he doesnt want to have anything to do with the game but good luck to him in his choice for his life.

Good on him I say. Live your own life. He had a good career and now intends a good retirement.

Amazing thinking he lives in Bowral now. The greatest run scorer came from there, the greatest goal scorer returns to there.

The bloke is a legend. What is it about these legends....think Gary Ablett as well.......that they want to shun the attention which we so much want to bestow on them. I can't help thinking that Plugger's comeback and his somewhat forced "second retirement" following that of the Rocket's resignation, had a lot to do with his attitude to the club and perhaps to the AFL. A bloody shame.

I heard a replay of the interview, he said he hadn't seen a game since 2002 then later said he watches games on television from time to time. He also knew who had won the football the night before when they asked him.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I wasn't sure when reading this if he meant he hadn't watched one live or on TV.

I'd be amazed if he hadn't watch last year's PF and GF in particular, even on TV.

Well, it was interesting to read his comments anyway, although he was being a little dramatic in some of his self-deprecating statements I feel.

EDIT: Just read Stellation's post... that makes sense then!

I thought it was sad. He is such a legend and understandable that football is not his 'life' anymore, but why come out and do an interview like that? Odd.

Came across as a negative fool. Embrace what you have done Tony, not dismiss it.

And yeah my arse he doesnt watch footy! He lives so far that going to a live game would be a big day out for the whole family.

I guess he has his reasons for turning away from the game, IIRC never really wanted the media spotlight in his playing days, and nothing different now.

From listening to MMM he really didn't want to do the interview, but did it for Frawley, who is an old friend.

Colless claimed last season that Lockett came up to Sydney for the Geelong SF off his own bat and sat like any punter in the stand.

So I wonder if there is a bit of selective story telling going on there.

Did think the article was a little sad. I have no problem with him wanting a life away from football but would like to think he has some pride in what he achieved in a football sense.
