Swans chat Team selection v Essendon.

It seems like nobody has gotten around to starting this thread, so I'm just starting it to say that the only change is Paton in for Melican.

They seem Tall, id play Ladhams to slide Hamling or Francis back and put Ramps on a small

patton in for Melican. what a joke. a tall for a medium. has Cox got it take to be a senior coach? Thinking no so far with his selections. Not sure if Snell still inujured but maybe Edwardes should have been promoted. Its said that he played well in last weeks reserves game.

Cox said Edwards pulled up sore after the reserves match.

Essendon have gone tall, but it’s largely behind the ball. Their game depends on intercept given they don’t have great back half runners, and their best interceptor is out in Ridley. I’m not too bothered though. They’re not exactly quality talls.

It could be a "horses for courses" selection where the players are chosen to match up with the opponents each week. Essendon has had some injuries to tall players so they may be playing a little short as a result. Bryan (203cm), Draper (205 cm), Edwards (191 cm), Jones (196 cm) and Ridley (195 cm) all have two things in common: they are all Essendon players over 190 cm tall and they are all injured. I doubt a 7-centimetre height difference between Melican and Paton would make much difference.

I agree, bigger ground would be a nice chop out for Grundy while keeping McLean in the 50

No hope if Joel or Logan get fit

Cox did say Snell got a knock to the knee in last week's game.

I don't get the Patton selection.
He has shown nothing at AFL level, doesn't have the height or strength to play on a tall or medium forward.
He's passive and lacks any dare.
..... And he is coming in off a calf strain.
There is obviously something there I'm not seeing.
                    Can anyone enlighten me?

Absence of alternatives. Cox prefers Hamling and Francis forward, with Paton providing depth in defence to support Rampe, McCartin and Blakey to Hamling or Francis back, with Ladhams forward. I agree with that approach.

If we wanted to keep talls forward we should have brought in buller. Even though he is not in great form. I am more than a little suspicious Blakey will have to play lockdown yet again. Bugger. That doesn't work. He needs to get a different mindset. Cox needs to look at a player's strengths and put them where they are of best value. He did that last week with Francis and Hamling. But he still won't do the same with Blakey. Astounding how stubborn people can be. More like a Mule than a Horse lol
